Coby Fleener shifts in Saints' second 'unofficial' depth chart
 

Unofficial depth charts are supposed to "unofficial." The New Orleans Saints, like every other NFL team, publish one for public distribution leading up to each preseason game.

The Saints did make some notable changes, though, from their depth chart leading into the first preseason game to this week's roster breakdown heading into Saturday's preseason game against the Texans in Houston.

The full depth chart is at the bottom of this post. Here are the notable changes from Game 1 to Game 2 for the Saints:

- Andrus Peat moved from the starting left tackle to starting right guard with the return of Terron Armstead after coming off the physically unable to perform list. Tim Lelito is listed as the starting right guard. Senio Kelemete stands as the backup at each guard spot.

- Josh Hill landed as the first-team tight end after being second on last week's depth chart. Coby Fleener dropped to No. 3 on the depth chart with Michael Hoomanawanui sitting second. This is curious to say the least.

Doesn't sound like Fleeners working at all by the sounds of that. Hoping this isnt another bad FA signing

Haven't heard much out of camp on Fleener. Was a poor signing for the price we signed him for. I don't think it was a bad pick up, but we spent way more than we should have. If it turns out he isn't even the number 1 it's going to be another Byrd type signing.

If Josh "I'm made of glass" Hill is beating Fleener out its not a good sign. Hopefully this is just a procedural "wake up call".

Why the hate on Hill? He's been solid over the past few years as a rotational TE. And I don't remember him being hurt...and if he has been then it certainly hasn't been enough to give him that moniker.

All I know is the before we signed him, I said "who the heck is coby fleener, and why are we paying hin this much money?"

I like Hill but he's not the type of receiver that causes defenses to sweat. Fleener was supposed to be a big legit receiving TE to replace Watson. I think Hill is solid, just not the type of guy that defenses have to scheme against.

Not necessarily. Sean is known to move guys up and down the depth chart during practice. It is why he always has a clipboard and a pen. If you make a good play you go to 1, if you make a mistake you go to last. It is an extremely effective and streamlined process.

i know freener missed a block last game that sent payton frustrating down the sideline looking for a piece of his asre, when ingram got hit in backfield.or maybe hill not to sure, but i love it when payton shows that character to his players. and thats why our kickers are always headcases,

When no one was looking Hill did fine. But he has hit his ceiling and isn't more than a semi-reliable back up tight end.

I got to see the beginning of camp and Hill couldn't catch anything and barely reached for balls within arm's reach.

Fleener was running the seam routes well and his size if employed well could prove valuable. I can see a lot of those 20-30 yd routes into the end zone being lethal ala Graham style.

Remember, this is unofficial. In pre-season they will move players from first to second and third to get them more playing time on offense in order to get a better evaluation of them. They rarely play there first string in pre-season.
