this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; TURNOVERS are EVERYTHING. Get rid of the fools either turning the ball over OR creating the opportunity for the defense to create the turnover. TWO MAJOR THINGS... First.. the defense looks improved but who knows how many injuries it will ...

Re: Well it's over guys
The guard play is abysmal. Anyway, back on topic........I think our young corners have a bright future.
The safeties look better than average. The line backers are as athletic as any group since the Dome Patrol. Even without our 1st round draft pick our defensive line is getting in the back field on a consistent basis and creating pressure on the QB. If we can get this unit cohesive in a hurry then we've got something special happening here. I believe we can hold opponents scoring drives down better than we have in a long long time. It's hard to believe but the defense carried the offense last night. ![]() |

Re: Well it's over guys
I have no idea if Peat will bust, but the constant moving all over the place can't help, can it? I do not see anyone else on the line doing this.
And to be clear I am not defending him. I have no stake in the game other than the Saints fielding the best line we can. I just don't understand the idea where he is concerned |

Re: Well it's over guys
I think a big reason Peat is shuffling around, isn't simply because they need help at different positions, but because they are trying to find some place where he isn't a complete liability. I thought he was incredibly underwhelming before they ever drafted him, and I sat here and watched the obligatory "don't judge him until he plays a down" comments last year.
But the fact is he is proving his doubters right, and until he turns it around, I don't know why anyone wants to make excuses for him. Shuffling around is not the reason for his struggles. His struggles are the reason for the shuffling. If you can play LT, where you are going against the other team's best pass rusher, then there's no excuse to not be able to handle the other side. I think he is a horrible fit for the interior, and I don't know why they would try him there for any reason other than to just throw something against the wall and hope it sticks. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

Re: Well it's over guys
Being from the UK I'm not too sure, but isn't Stanford supposed to be a school for smart people?
So if Peat came from Stanford, how can he not grasp simple blocking assignments, no matter if he switches between positions in training camp. |

Re: Well it's over guys
I don't think its so much about grasping the scheme or assignments as it is not getting enough time on one spot to get comfortable at that position. On an NFL level you need to be in a position where you feel good and can just do what you are supposed to without thinking about it. Just switching stance is a MAJOR thing.

Thousands of former athletes know the plays inside and out. Very few can process in the micro-seconds it takes to succeed in the NFL. Airline Pilots know what to do in an emergency in mere seconds. Fighter pilots know what to do in micro-seconds. Thousands of athletes are "physically" capable of playing CB (speed, explosion, hips, length, attitude, etc). Very few can avoid the 1/4 second delay in reaction that it takes to prevent a TD and force a PBU. Hopefully Peat just needs some more time to sync his brain to his reactions and footwork. So far it looks like that may not happen. |
