You're right that Pace was an invaluable part of our staff and his opinion carried alot of weight during the draft, but Coach Payton has the big gavel during the draft for the Saints...

When Ireland arrived you can see that our drafts have started to take a different tone with Coach Payton last year intimating as much regarding comments that Ireland encouraged restraint to Payton and the Mickster...

Pace, younger and not having been a GM, probably wouldn't have help make this turn, adjustment in our draft modus operandi which is getting better, still very flawed, but better had Jeff Ireland not arrived on the scene which has been a positive...

But to have kept a bright young mind like Pace from that kind of opportunity would have been wrong and brought down bad Karma (and he's a smart, loyal guy - remember he first turned down the Jets GM job)...

A key member of the Saints’ player personnel department since 2004, Rick Reiprish has been an integral part of the club’s scouting efforts since arriving in New Orleans. He brings over three decades of experience to his position.

As the club’s Director of College Scouting, his responsibilities include coordinating the efforts of the team’s area scouts, working to build a consensus entering the draft and grading and scouting college players throughout the year. Reiprish’s insight has been essential to the Saints’ success during the NFL Draft since his arrival.

New Orleans has picked up a steady stream of top contributors since 2004, including Pro Bowlers DE Will Smith, T Jammal Brown, S Roman Harper, G Jahri Evans, G Carl Nicks. T Jermon Bushrod, TE Jimmy Graham and P Thomas Morstead, as well as CB/S Malcolm Jenkins and DE Cameron Jordan. The draft has also brought mid- and late-round finds such as Bushrod, Evans, Nicks, WR Marques Colston, T Zach Strief and P Thomas Morstead, and the scouts have made savvy discoveries in undrafted free agents, most notably RB Pierre Thomas.

Ryan Pace enters his first season as the Saints Director of Player Personnel in 2013. He will work closely with Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis to oversee the club’s college and pro scouting operation and all aspects of scouting and evaluation of college prospects and professional players, including the Saints roster.

Entering his 12th year as a member of the Saints player personnel department, Pace spent the last six seasons as the club’s Director of Pro Scouting. In addition to overseeing the club’s staff of pro scouts, Pace’s responsibilities included recommending player acquisitions by evaluating current Saints players and scouting current and future free agents from the NFL and other professional leagues, monitoring the waiver wire, researching possible trade opportunities and supervising the advance scouting of upcoming opponents. In addition, as the organization prepared for the NFL Draft following the season, Pace assisted in the evaluation of some of the top college prospects.

Reiprish was the College draft guy, Pace was the free agent guy.

Rick was fired 2 years ago (2014) and replaced with Ireland.

Pace was promoted in 2013 to "oversee" both. He is also considered a contract guru who learned under Loomis.

Reiprish was the man responsible for the dreadful drafts we had before Ireland came on board.

We'll get over it. The only thread about Pace should be, "Why didn't we get rid of Pace much earlier?" We won and selected decent players in spite of him. Were all of these bad FA contracts sole due to Loomis?
