Evans back.

ESPN reporting he is now back with the Saints.

Jahri Evans was already suited up at practice for the Saints on Wednesday after signing a one-year deal earlier in the day. Left tackle Terron Armstead also participated in the portion open to the media. The only player not participating was linebacker Dannell Ellerbe for an undisclosed reason. The Saints would miss Ellerbe if he can't play Sunday. He had an impressive summer.

Looking that way. With the improvement that Peat was showing near the last of last season we could have a pretty solid O-Line once again.

Can we play Peat on the proper side of the line and let the kid have some stability please?

Yeah I would think that's the case. Jahri is a RG and Peat looked better at LG. Kelemete and Lelito will probably never be any better than backup material.

if evans can just be decent yeah it is very possible and that will go a long way to improving our chances and making us competitive

Sweet........we can have a mediocre line now. No more of this O-line crap to worry about.

i didnt think evans had a great year last year, but by the looks of preseason he was at least better than what we have lol.

I was one of the ones defending Evans' play. He did the best he could with that bad wrist and was better than anyone behind him.

Evans was unable to push off at all with one of his wrists. The surgery he had in February jsut didn't fully heal in time. Supposedly he has now fully recovered.

well from the preseason he certainly looked better so I am hoping the oline does just enough. if we get some decent blocking we could do some things offensively.

Heck, we did things last year with the line hurting.

I like the move for depth... I think Tim should still get a chance to start. Either way, we will need the depth at some point, highly unlikely that everyone stays healthy.

No, was talking about defending him during the season and when he was released. Go back to last season when Evans was being ragged on. I was pointing out the wrist injury and he wasn't just losing it in general. But, if he hadn't recovered from the wrist injury he wouldn't be better than anything we already had on the roster. It now appears that he has finally recovered or he wouldn't have passed the physical.

Since Jahri is familiar with the system, is it safe to say he starts vs Oakland?

IMO Evans is no where near what we need but is way better than what we currently have.

Re: Evans back.

Wow... The sun is shining again.
OK, I thought we were going to suck this year. The root of our suckage was
going to be our O-Line, which was going to let Brees get killed, and our season
was going to be over before it started.

Evans might be a step slower, and might need a little WD-40 here or there. But he MUST be smarter, and healthier than before. And he's an improvement from what we had, plus, it stabilizes Peat, where he can play one damn spot, and his head can stop swimming. This Gels the Line. Brees will now most likely live, and even more, He can stand up for 3.8 seconds, which means he can go back
to the business of TORCHING NFL DEFENSES.

Our defense is probably a notch better, just enough to hold opponents to 38-41 points. Which is fine. We're going win every game 45-43.

I expected us to be the worst team in football this year.
Now I think....
CHAMPIONSHIP.

If he had anything left Seattle would have kept him. I give him 2 games being able to hold up and then he's going back to last years form. We need help at G. We cut him, then Seattle and no other team was banging on his door, sad part about it the young guys never stepped up and that alone says no depth.

I think there's more than meets the eye with the Saints cutting him. From:
Jahri Evans declined New Orleans Saints' pay-cut offer, agent says | NOLA.com
Quote:

Evans was scheduled to count $8.2 million against the cap in 2016. The Saints saved $3.1 million against the cap by releasing him.

The move had added urgency because $2 million of Evan's base salary would have become fully guaranteed on Wednesday (February 2016). Additionally, a $1 million roster bonus would have taken effect next month (March 2016).
So the team and Evans disagreed on his value for 2016. He was cut because of it. The market set his value. Presumably the Saints got him back at a fraction of the original value. One last item from the article, which explains why Evans wasn't willing to take a pay cut:

Quote:

"He's healthy and hungry and looking forward to the next chapter of his career."
We will soon see if that is in fact the case.

I am the first to admit that the O-line has looked uneven in preseason. But I'm a bit more hopeful now. From now on the first string is going to be playing the majority of the snaps. Come Sunday we'll have essentially the same starting line we ended with last season. And last season that line contributed to a top 10 offense in most measured offensive categories. So I look forward to seeing similar production as in the last 5 years. Couple that with even a moderately improved defense, and I like the Saints chances to be in the mix in 2016.

I agree.

Let's be 100% honest, we did not want Jhari back. We wanted to part ways and move on. We had no choice but to bring him back because neither of the other two that were given a chance were worth shat. I mean I have never seen so many damn people coming through our line. It took a while for our offense to get going last season. If you think and remember back people kept wondering why we were throwing so many screens and short passes. People started sayinmg Drew has lost his arm etc etc, but the real reason was our line couldn't give enough time so everything was a screen or short pass.

I don't know what Jhari has left, but I know he sure as **** can't be as bad as lelito and sele (whatever his name is). The oline scared the hell out of me in preseason. I have never seen it look that bad. I keep hoping Jhari can get it done. He doesn't have to be all pro, just decent and if peat is decent we should be able to move the ball.

If things do work out with the line and we are competitive this is by no means some ah ha moment for the sunshiners because we had to bring someone in to fix that **** we saw in preseason. I hope the plug works.

I think the Saints gave Lelito an opportunity to step into the starting spot and he failed. I think he's proven himself to be a career back up
