What went right Sunday...

Well, it was a pretty painful loss to lose it in the 4th quarter like that in similar fashion that we're sadly becoming accustomed...

That said, wanted to create a thread focusing on the positives...

Despite being much maligned during the PreSeason when he was getting moved all over the place, Andrus Peat was a beast for us at the Left Guard position...

Peat had pancakes, he blew open some nice holes against one of the top defenses for Ingram (who for once trusted the hole would be there when he hit the hole)...

And he kept Brees unscathed up the middle...

So Hats Off to Andrus Peat...

Re: What went right Sunday...

Yeah, Peat played pretty well. Did give up some pressure here and there but it was a dramatic improvement from his preseason tape. The O-line on the whole was good, as has been pointed out. Michael Thomas is the real deal, and oh yeah, so are Cooks and Snead. This might end up being the best group of 3 WR's we've had..and Colston/Moore/Henderson were no slouches in their heyday. Brees was in rare form and I think it's safe to say that the BS preseason narrative about him being in decline was proven to be just that, BS.

I hesitate to bring up this last one because I'll probably get flamed for it...but, f*** it. Despite the 4th quarter meltdown, I still believe this is a better defense than we had last year. The youth and inexperience is painful right now, but I think they'll grow and progress as the season goes on. And if the damned pass rush would join the rest of the team on the field from now on then it'll make things a whole hell of a lot easier on those young pups.

Were gonna get tested again Sunday big time against a high powered QB
with some dangerous receivers. Jumping from the frying pan into the fire as they say.

Cooks and Snead; both way over 100 yards and combining for 3 touchdowns...

How about Coby Fleener he lit it up. Wait a second I just realized that I'm watching my son play Madden.
Well since that cat is a bust, I will have to give my props to Andrus peat considering.

Brandin Cooks looks like he gets faster every year

Insane hustle by Michael Thomas to race down field and pick up Sneads fumble

And yeah Andrus Peat played really well, as did most ot the O line.

Re: What went right Sunday...

I counted 3 hits on Brees, and one was on a keeper. One hit looked like it could've been trouble, but he just popped right up, like he's made of rubber.

O-Line was MUCH Improved. I didnt notice Peat's pancaking, but great to hear. One great thing about sitting in 500, is you get a telestrator's view, so I did see us opening up some nice holes. And that screen to Ingram was the best screen we've had by anyone who isnt #23.-- Best screen in 2 years.

Not sure why you guys are digging at Fleener. I didnt see him drop anything super catchable. Mostly, Brees was going to the wideouts, who were LIGHTING IT UP---- This is a good thing. I have a feeling Fleener will shine another day.

For the suckage of the Defense, we did stuff many Raider runs. Tackling looks better, when we are in place. Also, some great open field tackling, in spots.

We just need to put it together. And do something, make a trip to Africa or Australia; or search graveyards for a large zombie who can play defensive front 7.

Oh, and except for 2 straight grounders to Cadet, & one overthrow, Brees was Brilliant. I dont know how it looked on tv, but he has not lost a step, and his timing, and also footwork in the pocket are lights out. Plenty of arm.

Great Thread, JP.

Re: What went right Sunday...

The Saints may have the best WR group in the NFL. The offense was great, could even be better if a running game can be sustained.

jeanpierre 09-13-2016 08:43 AM

Re: What went right Sunday...

Another positive...

I'm in the "Don't kid yourself, Drew, aging is about to bite you in your arse" group and didn't think a long term contract was wise...

That said, I thought he threw the long ball better, yes I said "better" than he has in two years...

And that first touchdown throw to Cooks, threading three defenders, was pretty ******* impressive...

So "Hats Off" to Brees on an outstanding day, even if he did look a little rusty/gun shy out the gate...

The longest TD pass in Saints history! Sucks that we lost but at least we've got that memory for the scrapbook.

Re: What went right Sunday...

The fact that Brandin Cooks is soon to be 23 years old and in my biased opinion is quickly becoming one of the best WR's in the league.

The guy isn't just a deep threat, he has great hands and catches a slant just as well as a 60 yard pass.

I'd say the 98 yard touchdown was the loudest I've heard the Dome in a couple of years.

Re: What went right Sunday...

I do think there is a massive case to be made that Pete Carmichael keeps the playcalling duties. Didn't think id ever be saying that but that offense looked good. The only criticism was that they should have been clock chewing and riding Ingram to the win late on but that wouldn't have been different had Payton been calling the plays. Its just the way they are.Best the offense has looked in a long time(well at least through three quarters). Still blaming Fleener inability to catch costing us points late

Hopefully Fleener shows up more in the red zone vs the Giants. I have a feeling he will be more involved in Sean's offense on Sunday.

Side note - maybe CJ Spiller shows up and shows out as well :airguitar:.

Re: What went right Sunday...

Not sure Brees will trust him in the redzone. He drops the ball when unchallenged.

If im Drew im going to Snead again and again. The msn makes plays and has great hands

Re: What went right Sunday...

Brees' accuracy was sick

that first td to Cooks he hit a very narrow window
the 98 yard bomb he hit Brandin perfectly in stride

Jari Evans was seamless coming into the lineup
The left side was awesome in the run game and Ingram hit a few nice runs
Cadet and Murphy didn't show much

Byrd was clueless out there, always out of position
three quarters of D with Breaux out there and that was with 4 seconds + of time for Carr to throw behind a decimated line no less. ugghh

Play calling on offense

Vaccaro played even better didn't he?

Pete Carmichael had an outstanding game, changing it up was smart on Payton's part; we even had a few running plays mixed in with the program...

Pump the brakes on Kenny V. Yeah nice individual performance but he needs to bring that intensity every week.

He has and he will; hopefully the reduction in reads from Rob's scheme will aid in that endeavor...

i really could care less. You're up by 14 late and lose a game you have absolutely no business losing. What went well...I don't care. That is not against you JP, just how I feel

We rotated right guard throughout the game and still played effectively across the O-line.

The wide receivers are talented with a bright future.

Drew is still Drew.

Dome field advantage caused at least one false start.

Drew:

28 of 42 423 yards 4 TDs 0 INTs

on pace for 6768 yards this season, actually he only has to average 375 a game to reach 6000

What went right was we scored enough points

What went wrong is that the Raiders scored more.

sad thing is in today's NFL, 375 yards a game doesn't even sounds like all that much

I know it sounds like a broken record but everythng went right on offense.I was also happy with ST. Defense had its moments but choked when it counted.

It is a good deal actually unfortuenately a lot of people seem to think its all offense and the game has nothing to do with playing Defense.

Which is really what is costing us games.

What else is new? That's been the story ever since 2011 when they choked in the playoffs vs san fran.
