Re: Meanwhile the Patriots
Damn I was seriously going to post this thread this morning.
This is a great example of what is wrong with the Saints. No matter who they have at QB they win. 3rd string QB and they dominate. We are build WRONG!!! Last year we should have traded brees for draft picks and build our damn lines. Yeah we'd struggle a year or two but then get a QB that we can protect and we wouldn't be pressed up against the cap every year. We spend so much time with the Pats to share ideas ect but we get nothing for that return. At this rate the Browns are going to win a SB before we do... they got good draft pics in positions that won't run up their cap. I say in 2-3 years they will be a contender. We'er still going to be 7-9 at best. WITH THE FORTH PICK IN THE DRAFT WE SELECT... WR? |
Re: Meanwhile the Patriots
Pretty amazing ....

Re: Meanwhile the Patriots
In every era or decade in the NFL, one team is always "top franchise" best or puts the best product on the field. This era = Patriots. And it's the longest "Top franchise" during an era in the NFL I've seen. 49ers were that way through a large chunk of the late 80's and 90's.
It's hard to compare any franchise to the Patriots. They are just better coached and better run then any NFL franchise right now. |
Re: Meanwhile the Patriots
I'd love to hear one of our reporters ask Sean this question. I've heard Payton specifically reference the Patriots as a franchise he has tried to mold the Saints organization after. I'd be curious to hear his (honest) opinion as to how he thinks he's doing in that regard.

Re: Meanwhile the Patriots
Heard an interesting quote about their defense. They play zone. But, it's more of a match up zone. Instead of just dropping to a point in the zone, and allowing a lot of uncontested stuff underneath, they immediately body up anyone coming into their zone. Makes sense to me and it's hard to argue with their success even without a lot of elite players.

BB doesn't try to take shortcuts. And, The Pats are obviously the best at player development that anyone has ever seen. |

True. Just look at Jamie Collins. In my opinion best LB in the game. Amazing development. Sean thinks that he can match that coaching with Vitt, Johnson... Yeah, good luck with that. |

Re: Meanwhile the Patriots
Hate to concede this but good coaching = good teams.
Patriots have it going on right now. |
Re: Meanwhile the Patriots
Well they better be ready again for next man up at QB.
That third stringer has injured his thumb. Luckily for them Brady has only one more game to miss |
Re: Meanwhile the Patriots
they love our cast offs

Re: Meanwhile the Patriots
The Patriots prepare and play with an intensity that exceeds other teams in the NFL right now.
And meanwhile, Roger Goodell ... |

Had we had that pick, we may have very well picked Collins. |

Our second round selection was forfeit then... Then again, this was before reality of not having a complementary defense hit him two years ago... |

Re: Meanwhile the Patriots
The problem is in the developement of players.......we suck at it. Of course we draft poorly so there is an excuse for poor performance.

Re: Meanwhile the Patriots
Does the System make the QB? A few names to toss around. Drew Bledsoe BB won with him. Enter Brady the wining continues with a 6th round QB. Brady goes down and in steps Matt Cassel. A QB who was a career back up at USC. In fact he went 11 - 5, 3,693 yds. 21 TD 11 Int as a starter. Was dangled in front of the rest of the league who needed a "Starting" QB. We know how that went. Present day Brady is suspended so bring on "The Prospect" and remember Matt Cassel. The prospect goes down bring on the "Kid" remember Matt Cassel. Hounerable mention to Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett two other products of the BB QB "System"
There was another great coach who dangled a "Starting QB" every now and then. Don Shula. Who remembers Jim DelGaizo and Scott Mitchell? Ask the Giants and the Lions how those "Starting QBs" worked out! System? QB? A combination of both? |
