Joe Staley is available, too

Thoughts?

In addition to Browns left tackle Joe Thomas, 49ers left tackle Joe Staley also could be had in trade.

Staley, drafted in the same round (first) of the same draft (2007) as Thomas, has been tied to the same teams that have some degree of interest in Thomas: Vikings, Giants, Cardinals, Seahawks and, if the 49ers are willing to take whatever they can get, the Patriots.

While the Browns would deal Thomas for a second-round pick, a source with knowledge of the dynamics tells PFT the 49ers are angling for a first-round pick from a contender*for Staley, which likely would come late in the round.
Staley, 32, is under contract through 2019. His base salary spikes from $5.4 million this year to $8.25 million in 2017.

Isn't it convenient this always happens whenever we give players big contracts!!

A first or second round for a 30+ year old player? that you'll have one, maybe two years left? That's just crazy.

The Browns keep insisting they won't trade Thomas. Obviously there is most likely a certain price that they'd be willing to entertain the idea. I doubt seriously a 2nd round pick would be enough. So I don't know what this person is talking about saying "the Browns would deal Thomas for a second round pick". As for Staley, it would be nice to have him in the short term, but he's too expensive for that and, at 32, I don't know how much he has left beyond this year. He would also have to move to right tackle if Armstead can get, and stay, healthy.

I'm not even going to entertain the thought that the Saints would pursue Thomas. If we're going to make a trade for offense, it really should be a guard.

Torrey Smith on the block. I would trade for him. Another burner.

Would I love to have Joe Thomas in Black and Gold?

Of course!

Is he worth trading for?

No! Not with all the other needs we have. Good lines are mainly built through the draft.

And that other Joe Whatshisface... Hell to the no to the no to the no!

Just not a big fan of trades this time of year.

Unless we get a starter with some youth, plus we have enough problems to be trading away what little talent we have and or picks.

If we were in the Conference lead or within a game, that'd be one thing...

But we're at least two starting guards, at least another starting defensive end, another starting linebacker, one starting cornerback and supposedly an upgrade at right tackle away from being dominant, legitimate contenders...

Payton would deserve a kick in the nuts if he traded anything higher than a fourth rounder for an older, plateau-ed, descending player (29+ years) at this point...

I can see trading for a quarterback next season with Brees contract where it is, but not a Joe Thomas or Staley at this point in their careers...
