I have a gentle suggestion. Before suggesting a trade or cutting a player always take a look at their contract:

and note a couple of things:

1. No matter the transaction, the team is responsible for the signing bonus and the guaranteed money. That's the reason for the $22 million this year and $16 million next year in the dead cap column.

2. Always observe the difference between the cap hit and the dead money. Almost always when it is upside down (dead money > cap hit) the likelyhood of that player moving anywhere is virtually zero.

3. The first offseason that difference is right side up is when to look for movement of some type (restructure, cut, trade, etc.)

So looking at Jordan's contract, don't expect to see anything before 2018.

Loomis is first and foremost a capologist. So before thinking about any transaction, look at the cap implications first.

Byrd was another example of this. He was simply too expensive to move until after this season. Expect a restructure or a cut this season:

Pretty much all NFL big money contracts are guaranteed until the cap hit/dead money breakover occurs. Players get up front money and at least a couple of years of stability. Teams get to spread out the cap hit giving a bit of cap relief and the flexibility to move players after the first 2-3 years of the contract. It's the win-win that drives this type of contract structure. But for both the player and the team there is a disincentive to try to do anything in that first 2-3 years of a new contract.
