Saints Sign LB Travis Feeney
Interestingly, he replaced Hau'oli Kikaha as Washington's edge rusher. |
Re: Saints Sign LB Travis Feeney
From my reading Feeney has freakish athletic ability however ... he has had multiple surgeries on both shoulders :brood:.

Re: Saints Sign LB Travis Feeney
Calling on JP and Hagan... What did you guys think of Feeney going into the draft? In a way this is kinda like we made an extra late round pick since he's a rookie.

Re: Saints Sign LB Travis Feeney
Kinda of a 'lankier' Thomas Davis; former SS (damn good one as a Freshman) to OLB Convert...
Feeney hadn't adequately added the bulk he needed to play linebacker (hence the sxs)... Has above average coverage skills; reminds me alot of Redskins'/USC Alum Su'a Cravens, just taller... Saints really seem to like linebackers who play four to five games a season and tub sit otherwise... Yeah, he could be real special, if he can stay on the field, if he can stay healthy, if he can bulk... |

Patience pays off for Saints as they snatch versatile, athletic linebacker Travis Feeney away from Pittsburgh | Saints | theadvocate.com
According to this article Payton wants him as a Will LB... "I see him playing at Will," Saints head coach Sean Payton said. "He is athletic, he is long. He is someone that ran well and someone with traits that we like a lot." Feeney played safety at Washington as a freshman, roamed both the weak-side and strong-side linebacker positions the next two years and then moved to the front to play the Buck linebacker, the spot manned the year before by current Saint Hau'oli Kikaha. "I can do a little bit of everything," Feeney said. "I've kind of worked my way around the whole (defense). The only position I haven't played is Mike." What that means is that Feeney can cover, play the run and rush the passer – a lot like Dannell Ellerbe, the Saints' current starter at the Will, or weak-side, position. |
Re: Saints Sign LB Travis Feeney
I'd like to hear what Dennis Allen has to say and how he intends to use Feeney. Speaking of linebackers ... I don't believe S Barrington has played a down since his signing last month.

Re: Saints Sign LB Travis Feeney
After measuring in at 6'4", 230 pounds, Feeney flashed his rare athleticism in multiple drills. He posted a 40-yard dash time of 4.50 seconds—the second-fastest of any linebacker—while leading his position group with a 40-inch vertical jump. He also finished second among linebackers with a broad jump of 10 feet, 10 inches
Travis Feeney's Draft Stock Rising Fast After Blowing Up NFL Combine | Bleacher Report Versatility is king but multiple surgeries on both shoulders raised huge red flags at draft time for me. Tweener with IR issues gets the axe really quick no matter how pretty they look at the combine fashion show, With that said. sixth round. pick that spent the season on the practice squad and was snagged for what he was worth. Nothing but a high risk high reward type of player The risk was so high IMO he was priority UDFA The rewards if he can stay healthy look plentiful coming from all over the field. It allowed us to snag another high risk high rewards in the 7th. Lasco Good snag. year late but we got a priority UDFA |
Re: Saints Sign LB Travis Feeney
Tall lanky frame, skinny legs, problems setting the edge.
My guess is strictly special teams and a back-up situational pass rusher. Likely cut before the seasons over. |

I still believe in Stephone and I hope the coaches feel that way too. |
Re: Saints Sign LB Travis Feeney
Allen runs the wrong scheme for Anthony to excel, he doesnt have the speed Allen requires for a lb. when he plays his 3 S set.

Re: Saints Sign LB Travis Feeney
It sounds like we have found Ellerbe's back up for when he can't take the fild.

Re: Saints Sign LB Travis Feeney
I have no faith in our coaching staff to develop LBs. The only successful LBs we will have are through free agency players that have seen some success or been coached elsewhere.
