Saints crumble against Bucs - Another disappointing loss

1 Attachment(s)
The New Orleans Saints forced no turnovers while Drew Brees threw for 3 INT's in yet another disappointing loss in a very winnable game against the Bucs 11-16.

The Saints defense contained James Winston all day long, but the offense sputtered and rolled to its fewest offensive yards in the first quarter in Sean Payton's career, along with tons of mistakes and penalties. The Saints are now 5-8 and their post season hopes are all but over for a third straight season.

6 ints in the last two games....Payton only cared about the Rams game...

3rd and 1 is the swan song of the season for the saints. All season long it comes up way to often. I can not blame Drew. It has been happening all season long and I would not be surprised to see we lead the NFL in 3rd and 1.

That rest squarely on the WR/TE and route running. Gotta get past the sticks first then catch the ball. this is mental

Blame Payton and this awful coaching staff.
Since Payton has taken over calling plays the offense has been awful. Not the first time this has happen.

Feel bad for Brees, that window is starting to shut.
With how bad this team has been for 3 years you have to look at the coaching first... Folks it's time for Payton to go!

On a bright note I thought Anthony played the run pretty tough. They were not able to get their run game going.

Defense as a whole played well.........it figures we get that part of the game cleaned up then the Offense goes into a nose dive. Even the special teams play has improved.

Fleener and his 8 yard reception really pissed me off. Easy first down for most NFL receivers.

I wouldn't mind getting a stud TE in the draft. Fleener has not impressed me in the least.

I watched the entire fourth quarter of the Seattle/Green Bay game hoping they would, you know, cut over to a game that was actually close. They never even mentioned the Bucs or the Saints or the score of the game the entire time. Fox and this damn league are a disgrace, time for the Saints to join the CFL, but we'd need to get our offense on track LOL.

Here in Indy they went to the Saints Bucs with 8:00 minutes left in the game. The ticker at the bottom of the screen showed the Saints score from start to finish.

Stealing money. I've never seen a player of his stature play so small.

Re: Saints crumble against Bucs - Another disappointing loss

I knew we were gonna lose this game or week 16. The thing is, we had a chance to win this game. I feel Brees thinks he's entitled. He obviously wants someone to give him a reason to win. He's not young hungry qb anymore. He does not have that same energy and I have even noticed he's lost weight. Brees used to have a beer belly. I think he played better with that. Suddenly our team has to move hell and thunder for him to win. He needs short fields or he can't win.

So he has a bad oline but when you are at the endzone like that and don't make plays I don't know what to say. Throwing ints like that against a team who's gonna get destroyed at home in the wild card round.

And let's say Ingram has no line to run behind. What about when he had that 8 yard run? There's gonna be a opportunity to get a big run. L'eveon Bell would have made a TD out of that hell. Ingram can't. But let's defense him some more. Sometimes you make lemonade out of lemons.

Even if we win next year I won't take back anything I said this year. We would only be winning next year because of the cap room. It's not going to change the perception Brees and SP will get when compared to the other greats. You don't just make the playoffs when you have a sb winning year. That's why I am hoping the packers or giants get to the NFCCG so we have a hard time getting back there(and I'd rather Brees retire with one ring and no rings for the other three in division than 2 rings and one of them having one). I want us to work for it and take a few years. And if Brees doesn't get there, too bad. Two rings is not gonna do anything to change any opinions on us. What people have said about us they are right.

Time to face the music. This organization has put us through pure hell to satisfy their agenda.

I disagree with you on Brees. He was definitely off today and he wasn't sharp the past two weeks, but otherwise he looks exactly the same. The forced INT's - we've seen this before.

Cooks, on the other hand, is "complaining" yet he misjudged a pass slowing down before hauling butt to the end zone and missing a sure TD by a step.

I saw a lot of drops, something all too familiar with this team. Some are rather sad and lead to INT's.

I think the missing link is since WR coach Curtis Johnson left the Saints in 2012 to become head coach at Tulane, the offense has never been the same. WR's have been bumbling and dropping balls since 2012. Before that, our team had some of the surest hands in the NFL.

No offense to current WR coach John Morton, but there's been a LOT of drops and unnecessary drama at that position, and the skill set has faded since Curtis Johnson left.

I also blame Sean Payton. It's just not the same since Bountygate.

Peace out.

This isn't all on Brees. Two TD passes were dropped. Sean Payton refuses to mix in the run; even when the game is close, or just needing a yard to continue a drive. Not to mention clock management.

This game was on the head coach.

Its the offense that's killing us, has been for quite a lot of the season.

13 points in Lions game
13 points in the Giants game
11 points in this game

Not to mention Brees has 6 picks and 0 TD's in the last 2 weeks, the whole offense has 13 turnovers in the last 6 games, ridiculous.

Cooks complaining and then misses 2 easy TD's. He is a "decent" player but not irreplaceable, I'm ready for the team to clean house and start again.

I was thinking on those dropped balls by Cooks... He was probably like, "damn, I just talked all that crap and I've dropped these balls." Trade him while we can I say, not sure how that rookie contract affects that.

Wondering if Brees may be banged up, he doesn't have the same zip on the ball that he had earlier in the year. I just don't know how to explain a QB like him having such bad games with the season on the line...

Good point...and of course the team would never disclose that information.
I thought I noticed Brees rubbing his right hand a few times in the second half.

The interior of the offensive line was horrible yesterday for three and a half quarters. The run game was horrible because of it so Payton does what he always does and abandoned it for the short passing game. I know for a fact that two of the ints were thrown against the same coverage, nickel robber, where the FS comes down. They knew we were going to throw deep so they took their chances.

-Refs were clearly one-sided again.
-Poor clock management. Wasted timeouts.
-3rd and 1. Empty back set. Horrible.
-Front four is competing. Fairley is a must re-sign.
-Robertson was missed.
-Bucs knew what the Saints were running and where the passes were going most of the day.
-Lutz is a franchise kicker.
-Ingram will tease and have his moments, but that's all.
-Coleman is vastly improved.
-Snead has taken a step back.
-For Cooks to be the man he thinks he is, he's got to dive for the long ball and not get alligator arms over the middle.
-Love Breaux. Appears to just be injury prone.
-Bell is a keeper.
-Payton needs to give up the play calling.
-TommyLee needs some snaps.
-Fleener is not a franchise TE. Another LARGE miss by the GM.

Re: Saints crumble against Bucs - Another disappointing loss

- When you're down, vulnerable, you can't let the officials be a factor - smaller market teams lose everytime unless you're one of the league's pets like the Packers, Steelers, or Ravens...

- Payton's got some insecurity issues that he needs to address; asskissing poster of Benson hung at Saints HQ; taking over playcalling and falling apart in games; dating MS West Virginia, nearly half his age...

- Craig Robertson, Nick Fairley, and Sterling Moore have earned contracts with Moore's a little tricky...

- Cooks will be fine, he's just pressing as is Brees, Payton...

- Vonn Bell is already as good as what he got out of Byrd this season...

- Tommylee is a fine player, but Murphy would be more versatile and the coaches needs to get him right...

- Fleener is the same deal with Byrd; former team's fans are laughing, relieved they were no longer their headaches...

U hit the nail on the head. all these 3rd and ones and we come out in the shotgun. I would rather make it a 4th down situation and run straight up the middle twice. Three times in a row on 3rd and 1 we come out in the gun. I absolutely don't want Payten gone but he was trippin on this one.

Brees and Cooks aren't getting the reps during the week that used to happen in the past with Colston, Graham, Moore, etc. The timing of the, what should have been a TD, pass was off with Cooks. The chemistry with this team is just not where it needs to be.

No Max Unger. I didnt see the game I just know he was hurt. We just dont have a good line, or definitely do not have depth

That's horrible. Payton needs to find a college job and recruit a speedy QB if that is how he wants to roll. Going gun empty on 3rd and 1 with a statue QB is borderline brain-dead.

I'm actually excited about our defense.... we need another stud CB and pass rusher we have a really good defense.... the offense ... I'm tired of it... I'm tired of watching them struggle and I know the defense can read what play we are running when I'm sitting in the recliner at home and can clearly see oh hear comes the screen .... Payton needs to be the head coach not the play caller... he doesn't have IT.... anymore ....

Offensive line was terrible. Bucs have a good D-line to begin with but not having Unger made them look even better. Most plays they were in the backfield before the handoff so I don't blame Payton for wanting to throw on 3-1, I just wish we would use quick slants in those situations, you only need a yard not 10.

Should have titled this post Saints Offense Crumbles Against The Bucs!

For all the mistakes the defense made, when you look at the numbers they held up their end of the deal:

Once again did not allow a second half TD

Held Bucs to 3.0 yds rushing and under 200 yds passing

Kept Winston without a TD, (run or pass), for the first time ever, college or pro.
