Saints place left tackle, Terron Armstead on IR

The New Orleans Saints will be without left tackle Terron Armstead for the remainder of the season after the team placed him on injured reserve.

Knee and quad issues limited Armstead to seven games, as he shuffled in and out of the lineup over the course of the season.

Amsted played all 61 snaps on offense Sunday in the Saints' 16-11 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he has not played in successive games since a three-game stretch that ended in Week 9 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Hope he heals up and is ready for next season.

Another one bites the dust. It's annoying how guys get hurt right after they sign big contracts.

Should have been done at least six (6) weeks ago and he should have had the surgery then...

Now he won't be participating in offseason work and possibly miss the start of training camp...

Which means we'll need to add getting another left guard or tackle to our offseason To Do List...

Time to get Peat some more work.......he needs it. I hope Armstead doesn't miss training camp. That would be a hard hit to solidifying our O-line next year.

Shame we can't install a buyer's remorse first year clause on some of these contracts...

Byrd, Galette, et al - some guys get the big Mo and then just shut it down...

And others can't play through discomfort...

Teams really should have a post-first year option to get out - yeah, I know, what's the use of having a contract in the first place...

Thank you, Doctor...

In all fairness regarding Armstead getting injured after the big contract extension... He was injured when we gave him the new deal and had been during the '15 season. The team knew this could be an issue but he's just too good to not lock up.

What good is he, though, if he's "not available"?

What scares me is hearing the word "hip" involved in this injury he's been battling. The dreaded hip injury has been misdiagnosed by our medical staff a few times causing guys to play through it and only make it worse (Keenan Lewis, Damian Swann, now potentially Armstead.)

From Rotoworld...

Saints placed LT Terron Armstead (leg, hip) on injured reserve.
Armstead suffered a setback in his return last week. He missed 6-of-13 games but was effective when healthy, grading as a top-15 tackle at PFF. Andrus Peat will close out the season on Drew Brees' blind side. Amsted should be fine for 2017 OTAs.

Hopefully, he'll be good to go by OTAs. I'm hoping we pick up some help for the O-line in the offseason through the draft or FA. As we saw in preseason, it takes some time for a line to gel. He's a beast when he's healthy.

I'm with you ... valid concerns.

The hip is a very complex joint with a ton of muscles so "hip" can mean pretty much anything. Doesn't have to be anything like the injuries to other guys. I'll guess we'll see.
