Proposed bills tax wealthy pro athletes ...... :nutkick:
There are bills pending in the legislature to tax wealthy pro athletes and coaches to help Tennessee's struggling budget. Supporters say it would be an easy way to raise money. State Representative Larry Miller and two other Memphis Democrats, Representatives Ulysses Jones and Larry Turner, are sponsoring three bills that propose different levels of taxes on pro athletes and coaches. The registration fee would tap the pockets of the state's three major league franchises: the NFL's Tennessee Titans, the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies and the NHL's Nashville Predators. The president and general manager of the Memphis Redbirds is worried that his minor league baseball team will be hit with the tax as well. Dave Chase has written the other minor league teams in the state and urged them to lobby their local lawmakers against the bills. John Ford, also from Memphis, is the Senate sponsor. http://www.wbir.com/news/news.aspx?storyid=24035 |

Getting taxed according to your profession and not your income? Is that constitutional?
So you would tax a lawyer 30% and a doctor 10% for the same income - you gotta be kidding me. |
