Saints draft position as of 12/19/16

This thread is for those who don't care to know about the 28 games go our way and we win out to get into the post season etc, etc.

Saints would currently select at #12 if the draft were to happen today. Our win over the Cardinals moved us back 3 spots. Last weekend we were selecting at slot #9.

If we split the final two, there is a good chance Saints are selecting anywhere from 11 to 15 (still a good spot IMO).

15th to 20th was my preseason thought,

puts in the range of hype and mystery with a sprinkling of reality for flavor.

DRAFT PROSPECTS EACH NFL TEAM SHOULD BE WATCHING DURING BOWL SEASON

https://www.profootballfocus.com/dra...o-bowl-season/

New Orleans Saints
Reuben Foster, LB, Alabama (Peach Bowl vs. Washington, Dec. 31)

Jourdan Lewis, CB, Michigan (Orange Bowl vs. Florida State, Dec. 30)

The linebacker position has been terrible in New Orleans in recent years, and Foster was the nation’s top-graded player at the position this season. The value of the three-down linebacker may be higher than ever, and he has the power and block-shedding to attack the run, as well as the athleticism to play both man or zone coverage. While adding more defensive-line depth may be an intriguing option for the Saints, getting a three-down presence like Foster would be an even better fit. They can also look to add talent on the outside in the secondary, where a guy like Lewis could shine opposite CB Delvin Breaux. He’ll get the “undersized” label coming out of the draft, but Lewis has the man-coverage skills to stay with the better route-runners the NFL has to offer. He’s gotten his hands on as many passes as the receivers he’s covered this season (two interceptions and eight pass breakups vs. 10 receptions allowed on 34 targets), and his 39.8 passer rating allowed over the last three years is the equivalent of throwing the ball into the dirt on every pass.

Thanks for posting that PFF article Chris.

Sign me up for this type of LB play all day. I'm not so sure Stephone is that guy in New Orleans.

i understand the love but needing to stand on his toes to be 5'10" is a killer at the pro level.

Want to take a risk on different might mouse? who has a higher ceiling than Lewis?

*Adoree' Jackson CB/WR/KR USC 5105 186 4.43 #2 Jr

First year he has really playing CB full time and he has been amazing.

Or roll the dice in round one on the player with probably ,“upside is through the roof,” in the draft?

1a) Marlon Humphrey CB/FS Alabama 6005 196 4.49 #26 rSo
Bama CB worry me but he arguably the most complete corner as a rSo scary enough as it is.

1b) O.J. Howard TE Alabama 6055 251 4.57 #88 Sr
as a receiver he’s still untapped

Round 1 Starts opposite Delvin Breaux day 1
Marlon Humphrey CB/FS Alabama 6005 196 4.49 #26 rSo

Round 2 Steps in to the slot day1
*Adoree' Jackson CB/WR/KR USC 5105 186 4.43 #2 Jr

Round 3 Takes over at FS day 1
Eddie Jackson FS/SS Alabama 6000 194 4.53 #4 Sr

Round 4 - Kevin King FS/CB Washington 6032 192 4.56 #20 Sr
Round 5 - Rasul Douglas CB West Virginia:6012 208 4.56 #13 rSr
Round 6 - Channing Stribling CB/FSMichigan 6011 176 4.52 #8 Sr

We need to be inside the top 10.

We need to look at trading some players. Ingram?

If we can get in the top 5 to get a certain RB out of LSU?

But I think if the Saints can get in the top 10 we are set up nicely for what they started doing the last draft. They were picking players on each level. Spreading around getting talent on the OL then DL then WR then LB then DB
keep bringing in fresh young bodies on all levels.

We do not need fournette, that would be a wasted pick. Keep ingram just give him the damn ball more.

Keep an eye on Zach Cunningham (LB). With his size, he could become a force at the WLB spot.

At this point I can't help but be against drafting LB's because we don't have the coaching staff to maximize their potential.

But one could argue that Robertson and Ellerbe stepped up their games when they became Saints.

And still no one can point to a LB that left here and got better somewhere else.

That's what I'm saying though, they got their seasoning elsewhere. They brought what they had already learned in the league. I'd much rather sign FA linebackers than draft one at this point.

Coaching hasn't been the problem, drafting crappy LBs has been the problem

This team has had little defensive identity for over a decade. some years 4-3, some 3-4 then back to 4-3. Problem is they keep drafting or signing these players to fit whatever they think they'll be playing, only to change their minds a year or two later. You can't build consistently while changing your mind every 2-3 years.

Yep, stick with a system, and draft players that fit that system

It really isn't that complicated is it?

Not according to his career stats on Rotoworld. He'doubled in 2 years with the Giants what he did 3 years in New Orleans.

More playing time doesn't mean better, he was the same player here, he just got more playing time there
