Wade Phillips

He is free agent. Great defensive coordinator. I believe he can make our defense respectable. We wasted way too many opportunities to sign LEGIT and well respected defensive coordinators.

Allen is good enough, get him some healthy CBs and let's see...

Allen been over this D 1 1/2 years as of right now. He don't make a pimple on Phillips butt when comparing them. I don't understand why anyone thinks Allen is even considered a good DC, it blows my mind!! He has done nothing!!

While I agree Wade Phillips would be an exciting addition, I also agree that we should see what Allen can do in his second season. We change DC's like we change kickers (before Lutz).

Re: Wade Phillips

Would Wade get along with Vitt and Johnson, or accept them on his staff? Because if you're talking Payton stays and Wade is our DC, you are talking same o, same o with Vitt & Johnson and the gang, as long as Payton's here!

If Sean is around as HC for 2017, I can't see him firing Dennis Allen.

We need more talent on defense.

Wade Phillips wants to stay with Broncos, laments being “unemployed” | ProFootballTalk

At least he can evaluate players for the defense better than what we have. Allen, while an improvement, is not in the same league.

Wade Phillips is great... But didn't we just try changing to a 3-4 defense only for Payton to change his mind and want to be the Seahawks?

It is just that simple.
Sideline to sideline linebackers and at least 1 that can run with a tightend.
Corners that can look back and make a play on the ball instead of cat-fighting
with the receiver after the ball whizzes past their ear hole.
A solid pass rusher that can force coverage to less than 5 seconds.
All the coaching in the world is useless without talent to execute the plan.
Doesn't matter whether it's 4-3 or 3-4 when you have players that make plays.

Re: Wade Phillips

No. He's a defensive coordinator nothing more. If we bring a defensive minded coach in our D may get better but our offense surely won't. We have had the number one or top 3 offenses every year Payton has been here. It wouldn't be that way with any other coaches not named Bellichek or whatever.

And it all starts with Ireland. So far so good with him. Going forward will he be the Cowboys Ireland or the Dolphins.

SON OF BUM DC?

Denver is going to hire a new coach. I WOULD LOVE to have son of Bum?

Exactly.

It's this see-sawing back and forth that has players guessing where to line up and what their assignment is.

The time to hire Wade Phillips was last season when he wasn't available. Or perhaps four years ago when we hired Rob Ryan.

Re: SON OF BUM DC?

Whoever becomes the new HC in Denver would be really, really, really stupid to let Phillips go, and that is, should Phillips decline the HC position, which will be offered to him.

Putting the coaching carousel aside, I just watched the press conference with Kubiak and man you have to feel for Gary and the Broncos. You can tell Gary doesn't want to leave but feels the health just isn't going to allow him to coach anymore. Best of luck to Gary, he seems like a classy individual.

That's pretty much an entire D JP. Who do we cut on the front line, lb. and s? I want ever disagree about firing Vitt.

I really hope Anthony can turn it around. I thought he was going to be a great MLB for years to come.

Re: SON OF BUM DC?

I would love him here. I think Brees would love him here( remember his comment). I don't want another waisted year because of an inferior D staff, if we go down swinging lets swing away.

Re: SON OF BUM DC?

Wade is a phenomenal defensive mind however Coach Payton isn't getting rid of Dennis. Especially after one season... the improvement of the defense and second half adjustments in spite of all the injuries.

Re: SON OF BUM DC?

After shifting the direction of the defense back to a 4-3 base with finally the core of players to man it, why in the hell would the Saints want to, yet again, totally change directions and bring in a 3-4 defensive coach once again in Wade Phillips. That is just beyond dumb.

Crusader 01-03-2017 07:51 AM

Re: SON OF BUM DC?

There is no debating that Wade Philips is a great coach but like Guido says, we are finally getting a 4-3 defence together, lets not try and change it again. Only way that would be remotely okay is if they did a total house cleaning.

Agree. If Wade is okay with running a 4-3 then that is cool but we are in such a bad place to switch to a 3-4. Cameron Jordan goes to waste in a 3-4 and Rankins/Fairley don't fit the 3-4 at all. Neither do Robertson, Ellerbe or Vacarro.

Re: Wade Phillips

Great guy and a good coach.....but no thanks. I like DA's ability to make plays with limited talent and his half time adjustments are pretty effective. Give the man some talent and turn him loose with his attacking play book.

Wade Phillips?
Hell Yes... If you can get him, its a no brainer.

Anyone else remember his interim stint as our head coach? He was good.

darksoul35 01-04-2017 07:15 AM

Re: Wade Phillips

I might be completely wrong but a lot of times in our 3 safety set aren't we still using a 3-4?
