Nick Fairley 'of course' wants to re-sign with Saints

Asked later if the Saints would have an edge in free agency, Fairley said they would.

"Of course you know I want to be back here, and I'm trying to get back here," he said.

He played great for us this year (except when he blew it against Denver right after his mother died). Hope we can hang on to him.

I read somewhere that being close to his home in Mobile is very important for him. That can be a very good edge for us.

Just as you would if you were a player, although, I doubt you would call it being greedy. You, just like any other intelligent person, would simply call it being smart. The Saints have plenty of open cap space to help him make that smart decision.

That, or we'll overpay and he'll go Charles Grant. Sorry, that's the "pessimist" fan in me...

my fears are based on his past. Incentives should be key

He deserves some trust after two prove it years. Perhaps a good contract and some incentives that could make it a great contract.
He and his agent know there's probably a market for him to sign a non-incentive heavy contract somewhere.

Let's split the difference

I think he's earned a decent to good contract. I know a lot people talk about his past but people grow up and mature, he seemed highly motivated this year and looked like he was in good shape both knocks on the past him but he's older and maybe playing for his childhood team and closer to home has him more motivated than ever, had his best season and graded high is most games. Hell only he and Cam were only two consistent linemen generating pressure. In short roll the damn dice.

I will like for us to keep him but how both of our rookies (Oneyemata, Rankins)performed the talent is their on the line, we just need the right defensive line coach to develop them, if they can't find one nick fairley is a MUST
