I'd move on from McCown, and I'd sure like to see Byrd restructure.

I rekon we need to keep Strief until somebody is big and bad enough to take his job. Ellerbe...dude stay healthy. Anthony? I just can't believe the light isn't going to come on for the kid.

Cutting Ellerbe would be a huge mistake. I wouldn't cut Stief. It's a tough decision on Byrd, he would have to be replaced with a good vet FA, Bells nowhere near ready. I truely feel for Anthony, wrong scheme.

IMO Anthony is probably gone for sure, Ellerbe I do believe as talented as he is that the Saints will move on from him too. Strief is safe, Bryd is probably safe (hard to believe I am saying that). I wouldn't do anything with McCown unless a clear upgrade is signed, plus McCown may need to start for a couple of seasons if Brees leaves the team after 2017.

I don't want to cut any of those guys. I guess maybe we could cut Byrd if he doesn't take a pay cut but otherwise we don't have anyone better to replace him. And when it comes to Stephone Anthony... Let's see what a new LB coach can do with him before pulling the plug.

Don't think any of the cuts mentioned would make sense. maybe McCown but that's all. I would give SA a year with a real LB coach before giving up on him.

FA and Draft will determine is these players. No replacements on the roster that I see

Pay for a vet the end of there career? over pay an over hyped vet? Draft a true FS and take your lumps? I do not see an answer on the team, free agency or in the draft (without taking our lumps in year one)

McCown

Ellerbe is an IR waiting to happen so no surprise if he is released

Anthony is a huge question mark. Cut? no way. If he has a limitation it is do to system and not talent. The issue is 43 defense not talent. Instincts trump read and react in a 43. In a so so year for ILB i would expect a solid trade value if the saints do give up on him.

If the saints do trade him I am expecting a draft day trade and the saints using him and their second to get back into round 1. odds are they should get a pick back in later rounds to use also.

Otherwise it was pretty much a waste of time. Click bait I suppose.

Ellerbe's past injury history is irrelevant. He played most of the season and was effective doing so. His salary is literally couch change in NFL dollars. If he want a big contract in 2018, that's another story. But for now he's staying put.

McCown is speculation. It's clear Payton, Carmichael, and Brees trust the guy and no one so far has risen to that level of trust. Let's not forget that he lit up the Panthers in 2015 in his last start. That's a backup's job.

Streif currently has no replacement on the roster. It's unclear if Peat can play the position. Plus even at 34 he was a top 5 right tackle in the league last year. While clearly the Saints need to be looking for his replacement, I don't think this is a year too late situation. Strief made it clear he wanted to retire a Saint. So dollars are not a problem here.

Anthony's coach was fired. It'll cost more to cut the guy than to keep him. So what sense does it make to cut the guy without giving the new LB coach as shot at coaching him up?

So that leaves Byrd. He's the only one that makes financial sense to cut. It's taken nearly three years to finally see the potential that was invested. The Saints are already $8 million in for Byrd in 2017 either in salary or dead money. The only question is he worth the extra $4 million to keep him on the roster?

Makes no sense to look to cut any of these guys right now...

Byrd, I'd wait till after free agency and the draft and then move him once you have proven commodities in camp in the backstop; and you should be able to get at least a fifth rounder for him...

Streif is a Top 20 tackle in the league, Fazende has lost his mind and needs to quit looking at the vitals on his trading cards...

If Ellerbe were to be cut, it should have been this past year, he played too well down the stretch and the Saints with a minimal investment should have gone after a better option last season in Trevathan...

Now, I can see bringing in Hoyer or Glennon to push McCown, that would make sense and Brees is at the end of his contract, so you'd want something to fall back on if he decided to walk and sign elsewhere...

I've been a big Stephone Anthony fan since his senior season and was thrilled when we selected him; but as I've said before, the kid needs a coach that has the personable skills to coach him up and Joe Vitt wasn't it; If Anthony's skill set is limited to a 3-4, so be it; but I know the kid can run and be everybit as good at the Will as he could be at the Mike...

Agreed with most of the posters here.

No way I'm giving up on Stephone Anthony this early in his career. Keep in mind he is under his SECOND DC. Even as 1st rounders are concerned, how many of those really pan out as superstars who understand their side of the field completely?

Zach? Hell naw ... where is his replacement or a young guy ready to take his spot?

Ellerbe? Missed a lot of games but when he plays, he still has impact. I'd keep him in Black and Gold.
