Chargers to announce move to Los Angeles
 

The San Diego Chargers appear to be no more.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Chargers are set to announce a move to Los Angeles as early as Thursday.

The NFL had given the franchise an extension through the weekend on their option to join the Rams in L.A. In the end, the Chargers didn’t need the extra time to make the decision. The Chargers have played the last 55 seasons in San Diego after moving south after one season in Los Angeles in 1960.

IMO they would have been better off moving to San Antonio, St. Louis, Portland, or Memphis. I don't understand this fascination for Los Angeles and on top of that sharing a market and stadium with the Rams???

I wonder if this means Philip Rivers will ask to be traded. He's a conservative family man and was rumored to not want anything to do with LA.

What a mess. LA has a lot of Raiders fans. No one will care about the Chargers there unless they win 12 games in their first year.

I tend to agree. Both teams (Chargers & Rams) should merge to make it a 8-8 team :).

New logo announced as well. That's some bull crap. The best uniforms in NFL history are gone. Dolphins, Oilers and now the Chargers. Shame. They are considering rebranding after 2017. One more ugly uniform like the Jaguars does the NFL no justice.

For literally one year. It doesn't really even count.

This is going to be a colossal train wreck. The new logo is hot trash. At least with almost every other sports move you had a new city that had a vacancy for a pro team - Oklahama City Thunder, New Orleans Jazz, Indianapolis Colts, etc. And this is nothing like the Rams; the Rams have the tradition and nostalgia to fall back on since they used to be in LA.

The only good thing that can come out of this is it's another black-eye for Goodell and his no-****s-given approach to pretty much everything.

Godhell is doing his best to over saturate the market. They won't last long there. Fans can be sooo fickle.

Not all (and this also applies to other places), but many in L.A. culture want to be associated with a winner...big part of why NFL teams fail in that huge market. I'm sure many here have seen the number of "super fan" celebrities at Lakers games when they play well and their mysterious absence when they are losing.

Its been said but I'll say it again. There's just too much to DO down there. They're not going to support a 7-9 team, much less two of them...not with any consistency.

I thought SOP for a franchise move was to load the trucks in the middle of the night and hit the highway. Or is that only to and from Baltimore?

I think LA could've supported one team but not two. The Raiders moved the same season as the Rams. That was probably one of the dumbest decisions Al Davis ever made. And he made a lot of dumb decisions.

I agree. What if the Raiders had stayed in LA back in mid 90's? They might have won a title or two with better FA's coming to LA. Rams might have stayed in St Louis and Chargers for sure would stay in San Diego. And Ice Cub and Dre would still be recording together. Damn.

I guess its all down to $$$$$$$$$$$$$ and new stadiums.

I feel really sorry for the Chargers fans, their team (I think) has been there since 1961 and now its gone, what a shame after they have supported that team for all of those years and then its just taken away from them.
