Re: Gregg Williams Speaking at Senior Bowl about Drew Brees
Still really like GW, he was the one that pushed our teams level to Super bowl status. His mindset made everyone tough, he even made the offense tougher because the D would smack them in the mouth without any questions.
Speaks volumes when the only game Payton shows any passion for was a meaningless game against GW, yet he can't inspire our team with the playoffs on the line. |
Re: Gregg Williams Speaking at Senior Bowl about Drew Brees
Honestly I think it all starts at Training camp ... If we go up to West Virginia again... we will be another soft losing mediocre team !

Re: Gregg Williams Speaking at Senior Bowl about Drew Brees
You know, I halfway joked about this when it happened, but I think Drew had a lot of input in the firing of those asst coaches

Re: Gregg Williams Speaking at Senior Bowl about Drew Brees
DA mentor was Williams. So it's like he never left now. Like Williams DA is now starting to build the defense all over again. Like Williams it all started with signing a bunch of solid back up LBs that could be starters if given the chance or at least be a huge talent upgrade across the board. That is why A.J. Klein is on my radar. Ryan Anderson in the draft fits the DA mold also.
If the off season goes as I think it will it will be like Williams never left. Back handed? SP and Williams were reported not to be friendly at all. |

Know there's some jabbing going on between Payton and Williams, but GW remembering this in detail shows he's being honest in his respect for Brees...

I know GW leaves a bad taste but he ain't all bad. This is a story from a few years ago, in my town...
GREGG WILLIAMS HELPS OUT TORNADO DAMAGE VICTIMS IN WICHITA, KANSAS Gregg Williams helps out tornado damage victims in Wichita, Kansas By Will Brinson | NFL Writer April 17, 2012 3:32 pm ET Gregg Williams is currently suspended indefinitely from coaching in the NFL. Once the 2012 season ends, Roger Goodell will review his status and decided whether or not to reinstate him. So it would help if Williams was out there doing his best to teach people how bad bounty programs are. Or he could do charity work. Or he could show up to random houses with a chainsaw and help people clear tornado debris. Wait, what? Oh right -- that's already happening. According to Channel 3 KSN in Wichita, Kansas, Williams was riding around with a chainsaw helping out people clear out debris from Saturday's tornado. "We made the crack that it would be funny if someone would come help with a chainsaw, that would be great," area man Scott Lyon said. "About five minutes later, the white truck showed up with a couple gentlemen and they stepped out and said, 'Do you need some help?'" Surely I'm not the only one who finds this to be some sort of combo of creepy, bizarre, fishy and hilarious right? Obviously it's "charitable" and great that Williams is out there helping out other people who are in need, but I'm sorry it's just weird. Why does Gregg Williams have a chainsaw? How is he reading Scott Lyon's mind? Isn't it crazy how quickly this information got into the news? Why is he joking about bounties???? "Now don't be saying anything about my bounty head program and me having to leave,” Lyon recalls Williams saying. "I think he was trying to hint to me and I really didn't catch on. He said it with a playful tone." Look, I don't think Williams is necessarily an evil human being or anything. That's not why I'm so perplexed/amazed by this story. And I don't necessarily think he did it just for publicity either. But if, in the next few weeks, a local St. Louis newspaper snaps pictures of him looking shocked to be helping little old ladies cross downtown streets, I'm going to get a little suspicious. |

If I worked for the Browns I'd have a newfound respect for quality QB's too :)

Re: Gregg Williams Speaking at Senior Bowl about Drew Brees
There was never a bounty.

Re: Gregg Williams Speaking at Senior Bowl about Drew Brees
When he came on board Williams set the tone early with a tough nosed defense. They whipped up on the offense and started elevating everyone's game on the entire team. Initially there were fist fights at practice and the offense complained to Payton and he told them to suck it up and toughen up. Which is exactly what happened.
The problem with Williams was his tactics were questionable and Payton never liked or trusted him. He give him incorrect information so he could leak false information during the playoffs. Payton did have a great game against him this year. "Boom! Boom! Boom!" :p |
