Mike D's 6-20, who do you like at 11?

Quote:

6. Derek Barnett - Defensive End, Tennessee

7. Jamal Adams - Strong Safety, LSU

8. Malik Hooker - Free Safety, Ohio State

9. Mike Williams - Wide Receiver, Clemson

10. Reuben Foster - Inside Linebacker, Alabama

11. Solomon Thomas - Defensive End, Stanford

12. Jalen "Teez" Tabor - Cornerback, Florida

13. Cam Robinson - Offensive Tackle, Alabama

14. Tim Williams - Outside Linebacker, Alabama

15. Jabrill Peppers - Strong Safety, Michigan

16. O.J. Howard - Tight End, Alabama

17. Sidney Jones - Cornerback, Washington

18. Takkarist McKinley - Outside Linebacker, UCLA

19. Marshon Lattimore - Cornerback, Ohio State

20. Mitch Trubisky - Quarterback, North Carolina
Many guys slide up and down the list, but of his guys from 6 to 20, who are your top 3 for the Saints at pick 11?

Mine...

6. Derek Barnett - Defensive End, Tennessee (the perfect compliment to Cam Jordan. Its truly a perfect fit)

10. Reuben Foster - Inside Linebacker, Alabama (He's pretty close to being the next Ray Lewis, I'm thinking thats a plus)

13. Cam Robinson - Offensive Tackle, Alabama (He's probably not an elite LT prospect, but everything I'm reading says he could be an elite RT for a decade plus).

I like walking out of that pick with a LB perfer Forster.

Re: Mike D's 6-20, who do you like at 11?

If we can't sign Zach Brown in free agency then it's gotta be Reuben Foster. Can't rebuild a defense without a Mike LB.

As far as that list goes, give me Foster, Derek Barnett or Marshon Lattimore.

Round 1 requirement. impact player that can starter day one. The fact you have a chance at a player that is a FREAK and is unlike anything we have seen in the past is only icing on the cake. This early in round one BPA absolutely trumps Needs. One of the safest picks to boot. If not the safest pick in round 1

O.J. Howard TE Alabama 6055 251 4.57 #88 Sr

Is the pick that is all he is billed to be and actually has upside to boot. He proved it at senior bowl. He is the first big TE with solid blocking skills. Find me a WR or TE at 6'5" that run a 4.57 and fill the roll as a traditional TE without being a joke. Rob Gronkowski is the only one that comes to mind. He also blows open the escape clause in Coby Fleener contract in 2018.

Taking a page the Pats and using a double TE attack for an aging QB might not be a bad idea to use.

Next safest pick?
Jamal Adams - Strong Safety, LSU
Sidney Jones - Cornerback, Washington

I want to hate everything about your post because I want the Saints to draft a DE to free up Jordan.

However, the reasoning you posit for drafting Howard is extremely solid.

I will add that his value will outlast Brees and make the next QB's life much easier.

Thanks for the post Hagan.

I dig it.

If it make you feel better SP has a bad track record at picking my players in round 1. We seem to agree more in the mid to late rounds. some what.

So DE is still on the board for you

Re: Mike D's 6-20, who do you like at 11?

We need to resign Fairley, Rankins up to speed. Alphabet opposite Cam and we have a very good starting line. If we pick up either CB and LB in the 1st and 2nd or the reverse it would be most excellent. I think we should draft another CB probably in the 5th and sign a FA. Greer is probably gone because of salary but we could get a good one for his salary in FA.

Is he a Marcus Peters clone? I'd be extremely surprised if the Saints FO go corner back at #11.

I'm a Bama fan but the more I read about Howard who I watched play a lot of games this year the more reservations I have about spending a first round draft pick on anything other than LB, DE or guard.

I feel a sense of urgency to go BPA at a position of need......and those are almost critical needs to me that have to be addressed if we want to win.

Same top two.

If Barnett or Foster are available at #11 I would be ecstatic.

Halloween, you want him at #11? Most would argue that Malik Hooker (Ohio State) is a better Pro prospect than JP. Is he a "in the box safety" or LB? Don't we already have one (Kenny V)? I'd rather have a center field guy (Hooker)/ball hawk.

Thoughts?

I look at a safe pick as a player that will come in and do what he is billed to do at high level.

Sidney Jones CB Washington 5116 181 4.49 #26 Jr
Best press corner back in college football with his length, exceptional footwork, quickness, long speed, athleticism technical skills and competitiveness. Alpha dog issues. Isn’t afraid to take chances to make big plays. So double moves and complicated route concepts can fool him due to his aggressive play. Lack of bulk really hurts him as a run defender as he doesn’t have the play strength to take on blockers or bring down ball carriers without help

Alpha dog, fluid, athleticism, instincts and ball skills.

Want to roll the dice on a young Alpha pup with the same traits and probably the highest ceiling in the draft?

Marlon Humphrey CB/FS Alabama 6005 196 4.49 #26 rSo
Size, length aggressive, catch up speed and makes plays on the ball to becone a #1CB at the next level. Overall the highest ceiling of any corner back in this class. If he gets better technique wise. Relies too much on his physical gifts.

Closet clone to the mano-a-mano Peters on the field and probably a bit more of a head ache off the field?

Teez Tabor CB Florida 6002 192 4.50 #30 Jr
Talent is not the issue. His mouth is a huge issue. Knocking the school coaches and players to the media more than once? who does he think he is to mouth off like this? Deon? gambler? toast? Teez. Teez is a true mano-a-mano, down-the-field, ball-skills type guy.

Of these three I would roll the dice and ignore that history of Bama CBs and go with up side + talent
Marlon Humphrey CB/FS Alabama 6005 196 4.49 #26 rSo

I would make sure my resume is updated when his rookie contract is up, just in case. :) I think at worst he will be a solid #2

Round two might have the answer it is looking good with the Senior Bowl performance of
Tre'Davious White, CB, LSU 5111 191 4.48 Jr

As he goes up others drop down
Cordrea Tankersley CB/FS Clemson 6002 195 4.48 #25 Sr
Quincy Wilson CB/FS Florida 6012 211 4.54 #6 Jr
Gareon Conley CB OSU 6002 195 4.50 #8 rJr
Marquez White CB FSU 5111 181 4.49 #27 Sr

This entire draft should have something to offer in every round at CB/S

Vaccarro is overrated in my opionion. Peppers could step as a rookie and make Vaccarro expendable( trade bait). With nothing lost at the SS position and gaining another draft pick in a deep selection of D players to chose from ,yes, he would definately be my #11 pick. The only question would be how much an overrrated Vaccarro is worth and what cb do we draft thats not made of glass. People thought trading Graham wasn't going to happen either when I was screaming for it. The #11 pick can be a very valuable pick if played right. I also rather have another NT that can help crush the middle than a DE.

Re: Mike D's 6-20, who do you like at 11?

Malik Hooker FS OSU 6020 206 4.54 #24 rSo
excellent in coverage, but tackling needs work. more than a few mental break downs. But he is a rSo so how bad do you come down on him for those break downs? This were interviews will make or break him.

I still am watching this fall downs the boards and waiting for the medical check on
Eddie Jackson FS/SS Alabama 6000 194 4.53 #4 Sr
solid deep free safety. massively improved after a move to safety from corner back. natural as a coverage free safety who can cover in man and play the deep center field.fractured leg Cover 3 - more of a single-high safety if this really what DA wants?

Late round steal?
John Johnson FS/CB Boston College 6002 202 4.54 SR
Not much to say about him except he has a nice skill set to work with and is generating some buzz.

Absolutely! But better yet, join the 2017 draft competition that I am sponsoring. Check out the pinned thread or just click the link in my sig.

Aww shucks. Ya know, I'd love to take part in your openly condescending competition, but I'm afraid it just might conflict with better things to do.

Thanks for the permission, though. It's always good to have.

Not with the deadline for entry over two months away. And it is a real competition and I am honestly hoping to learn something from it. I am not a big fan of college football so I have no clue about the players. It has always been hard for me to understand why people would put so much time and energy into prepping for an NFL draft that they real input into. My hope is this contest will be a fun competition for y'all and maybe an enlightenment for me.

Homer

I'd have to see who Mike D has in the Top 5 as he's got two Top 5's in his 6-20; of all the analysts I read, follow, MikeD is not one of them...

Is IMO vastly over rated an indicator of how thin the OT position is a top the draft. draft a RT at 13? nah

Tanoh Kpassagnon DE Villanova 6062 278 4.87 #92 Sr

exposed Bama OT Robinson to be the mediocre tackle prospect he really is. 3 sacks in the first half forcing Bama to help Cam the entire second half.

I agree . OT are thin and we sit on top of 2 really good ones. Trade? There are a few C and some really decent G this year?
