Why did we not take Freeney?

We could have had him. Yeah he was broken down but he was a proven leader. I think he's why Atlanta's in the sb.

He probably didn't want to come here.

Atlanta's in the Superbowl because they shored up their offensive line (Alex Mack) and took the pressure off of Matt Ryan...

Falcons are running the ball like crazy, taking up clock, keeping the defense off the field...

And then there's their draft pick from Clemson, Vic Beasley, a Defensive End/Linebacker who was named All-Pro in his second season...

So to all of you Beasley haters, try some Tony Chachere's seasoning with that crow...

"Yeah he was broken down..."

I think you answered your own question.

Freeney is hardly the reason ATL is in the SB.

True... but the dude still can make some game changing plays.

I heard something on NFL Radio a couple of weeks back on Beasley. They were saying that his sack numbers were a bit misleading. They implied he was somewhat of a one trick pony. His QB hits and hurries were proportionally low compared to his sack totals and his combined pass rushing productivity was behind several others including Cameron Jordan who was near the very top.

Well the Falcons record isn't misleading, and he wasn't on the field nearly as much as Cam Jordan because their defense was more efficient and their record backs that assertion...

And the other part of my point is that he's only in his second season...

Often good defenses don't have the top numbers because of the opponents in their division or because they're not on the field as long because they may have a run heavy offense...

My point also was that having the offensive line the Falcons had, they were league leaders in the rush as mush as the pass; that's why I'd argue if we had a younger, in prime, right guard (and left guard if Peat hadn't had to relieve an injured Armstead), we could have had a run game to take some heat off Brees and gobble more time, limiting the opponents' opportunities...

I agree with that.

Freeney was a great pick up for ATL.

Beasley's growth and success this year could have been due to that signing. He had another pass rusher on the field, but more importantly he had a mentor to teach him the game. Unfortunately ATL is in a very good spot for years to come.
