Best news of the day!!! Hopefully they will make these guys suck it up and get into better shape by either staying at home or somewhere in the deep south.

I'll be curious to see what some will say if the Houston Texans make another deep playoff run after having a "posh/spa" training camp in WV .

Texans to move portion of training camp to West Virginia - Houston Chronicle

Re: No More Greenbrier for the Saints in 2017!

It's easy to bash having training camp there, but multiple players and reporters said our practices were amongst the most physical and grueling. It wasn't the Greenbrier that made us soft. With that being said, I'm very happy we'll be back home this year.

Re: No More Greenbrier for the Saints in 2017!

I think this is good. It may not have been the reason for poor defense and a mediocre record the last few years, but I think the culture has to change in all facets of the organization. Coaches were released, new ones were brought in (or some cases successful old ones were brought back), training camp is being relocated and there's a chip on the players and coaches shoulders.

It's about changing the culture of mediocrity back to winning. Whatever has been done the last few years isn't working.

I applaud this move and I'm happy they're not going to stay with status quo.

Meh ...

Under the current CBA, they are all camp "softies". It doesn't matter where camp is held.

Facts.

Sometimes it's the slightest, most unremarkable change that makes a difference - it defies logic, makes no sense, even irrational...

But if staying in the area, getting acclimated earlier to the heat makes a difference and stops these early season slow starts, then don't mess what has worked in past successful seasons...:bng:

I say back to the red clay of Mississippi baby.

No more room service and continental breakfasts. Hello vending machines.

Gone are the beautiful rooms with mints on the pillow. Hello dorm rooms.

Make them hungry again for all they lost.

Its all a mental mind game. It works too.

I think the heat helps mentally and physically, science can say what they want. A person runs 5 miles in mild climates vs a person running 5 miles in the heat, tell me who has it tough?

Not to rehash on this subject but it's bad drafting over the years, lack of talent and coaching (see coaches that were recently fired) that makes for 3 straight 7-9 seasons. Modern medicine has proven training at altitude is better for endurance than training at sea level in hot humid conditions. Facts.

The Seahawks train in Renton, Wash. During late July/ early August, the average low temp is 59 and the high is 74 & the hated Cows practiced in Oxnard ,CA for years (until they built the posh new facilities here in Frisco). I can't think of anyone that's questioned these teams toughness the last 5 years.

It's talent and coaching, not location.

You guys act like if training camp is in Metairie these guys aren't going home to their mansions after practice.

Modern medicine = speculation only. Modern medicine= no medical cure for for lots of things, medical cure at some things. I'm sure there are tons of things written about this subject but actually proving it is impossible. You can also look at the SEC, they train in the heat and have produced some pretty good teams over the years. Facts. Drafting the right players I agree along with coaching. In working in heat I see people get frustated easily and makes them easily aggitated which in return they have to dig down a little deeper to finish that job, in posh conditions that I also work in from time to time everyone seems to be less concerned because of the conditions walking around joking, laughing so to speak. I'll take heat anyday to toughen my mental state and sweat out any impurities I have in my body, actually does the body good.

You can tell 7-9 is desperate to find a solution because he is feeling the heat. Fires 3 coaches after he is told he needs to make a change or he is next. Puts in a social media blocker before games. Changes location of camp. Dude is desperate to find a solution. The heat is on

Training camp should not be a resort atmosphere but also not some 3rd world situation either. Need to find something in the middle. Good enough but also not that good.

And if he'd done some or none of those things he'd still have some calling for his job.

Desperate. Feeling the heat. Told he needs to make a change. Told his job is in jeopardy.

Blocks social media BECAUSE of these things. Changes camp location BECAUSE of these things.

I don't always assume. I try not to. I fail a lot. But dude, there are a whole lot of assumptions. Maybe he doesn't want to be 7-9 any more than you do?

I have no doubt he doesn't want to be 7-9 anymore. I don't think he likes losing. Who does? I think he can still coahc and I hope he can turn it around here, but look what happen to Gruden in Tampa. Sometimes man you have a plan for your team but nothing works out and you keep churning mediocrity. I hope that is not what continues to be with SP, I mean he has been losing for 3 straight years. Long time bro. If it doesn't turn around this season would you really have any confidence left he was the answer?

One of my first thoughts when he hired Allen as DC, he either goes down with this hire because of fielding less than average D's year in and year out or Allen saves Paytons job by righting the D. I personally have no faith in Allen. I also think if we don't make a deep run Paytons done.

Yeah we churn another 7-9 or 8-8 performance and he has to go. That would be four straight years with 0 playoff appearances.I think making the playoffs would save him, but anything less I think it would be difficult for him to keep his job. Four straight losing seasons is inexcusable. We have some pieces so let's keep our fingers crossed

A resort will not toughen players. A tough physical hot training camp is what builds character and team unity. Not after a massage then nine holes aof golf and a meal in the resort restaurant.
