Saints to hold 2017 Training Camp at Metairie facility

1 Attachment(s)
The New Orleans Saints are staying home for training camp in 2017.

The Saints announced Thursday that training camp will be held at the team's practice facility in Metairie after spending the past three years at The Greenbriar in Sulphur Springs, W.V.

"We first want to thank Governor Jim Justice and everybody at The Greenbrier, as well as all of our fans who attended training camp there for such an outstanding experience," general manager Mickey Loomis said in a statement. "Jim, his staff and the community went above and beyond to embrace our organization and create a great environment for our football team.

"However, we have decided that holding training camp at our practice facility is the right thing to do for our club at this time, where we have the combination of an indoor practice facility in the case of inclement weather as well as access to all of the state-of-the art technology in areas such our medical, weight and video facilities, all factors which are integral to supporting the preparations of our football team."

Fantastic!!! Maybe I can make more practices along with the rest of the regional fans. It's good to have them home where they can focus on football and not the resort golf course and massages. I like having the team available for the fans. With 7-9 seasons building comradre with the fan base is a good idea.

Is it gonna be "roughing it" when they go to their million dollar homes with personal chefs after practice?

Maybe not but being in that south louisiana heat in the summer gonna be a reality check from the cool west virginia air.

Pretty smart. We can go inside when it just gets too freaking hot or the weather gets bad.

No more logistics hoops to jump thru.

They still have the indoor facility. Not sure what the big deal is or why they need to train anywhere else. Yeah, it's hot but it's not hard mitigating hydration. Drink water fool. A lot of it. And change the practices to the early morning and late afternoon. Leave 11-230PM alone.

It's going to be tough getting to work as I live only 1.5 miles away from the Saints' facility.

Me too! Greenbriar was a 1,936 mile drive. Metairie is only 1,728.

You don't know how tough it is in this Metairie Hood, Son!

It's actually a fantastic neighborhood that just happens to be in close proximity to the facility.

Life decisions and all.

It actually blows in summer.
Like all of SE LA.

Think? They already know that life.

Metairie in July and August is considered a tropical rain forest.
Average High: 92 - Humidity: 85%.

It rains almost every afternoon between 3:30-6:00 in August but mornings and evenings are tolerable. Workouts at 1:30pm is hard... unbelievable hard. You will sweat more than your posterior off. You will learn what it takes to be a kick A$$ or you will be cut. Works every time we have an offseason here.

I will say Hammond (top left) is hottest place in the area and it doesn't rain there as much.... so Hagan, if you want to send them to a Division 2 school, the place is 60 miles away. Actually when we worked out in Mississippi, I thought that was the best place.

Teach them out to sweat their "Johnson" off. :goodidea:

We will be ready to play any outside game in September and will make playing in the Superdome fun.

PERSONAL DISTANCE FROM Saints Headquarters... I never measured but I may be 5 miles away.

I'm biased, but Nicholls State in Thibodaux, LA had a good balance and good proximity for the fans; plus, great local food!!!

But if they'd stayed in Louisiana, the absolute hottest place at that time of year is further North, in Hell's Triangle of DeRidder, Natchitoches, and Pineville...

Geeez is that freaking area hot...

I'd really like to have seem them geaux to Natchitoches or Thibodaux...

But staying in the 504 is just fine, plenty watering hole choices in the evening...

I vaguely remember them using Southeastern Univ 86-87. About as close as it gets to bare bones living conditions and the heat was scorching if I remember, a lot of cramps and dehydration issues. Defense was great but that was the Dome Patrol era so hard to gauge. Those guys were just good but it did seem like it had an effect on them. Probably have to ask them if they think it helped or hurt. There was also no indoor facility so not sure what they did when it rained.

Mora said he found the team ran outta gas at the end of the season...

...definitely wasn't his predictable, conservative play calling...
