Just from reading a few tweets on Obi, he has closing speed and middle of the field awareness are very good. Mike Mayock's recent analysis (feet/hip movement) of him seems to be more gear towards playing corner back in the NFL. He could end up as the next Taylor Mays or Kam Chancellor. |

Trubisky? Really JP? You haven't been raiding Hagan's scotch stash have you?
Hagan's about talked me into a TE at eleven, but a single season QB? |
Re: Fanspeak 2017 NFL Draft Simulator

Now, there are only three quarterbacks I take in this draft... First Round - Mitchell Trubiskey, North Carolina If we stay at No. 11, and Jamal Adams, Reuben Foster, Malik Hooker, Marshon Lattimore, Jon Allen, and of course, Myles Garrett are off the board, I take Trubiskey; he'll be a great QB and if Drew looks like he'll play three more, we can always trade him to the Brown's et al for a King's ransom... Third Round - Nathan Peterman, Pittsburgh I think the Saints should definitely nab this kid if we've taken our DE, DB by the third round; really like this kid's moxie (impressive, poised takedown of Clemson); and he's got good arm strength; if Payton and he click, future will be secure... Fifth Round - Chad Kelley, Ole Miss Big Ole Miss fan, and this kid is as tough as nails with impressive defeats in the SEC including the Big Elephant; but his head is as tough as nails as well and I don't see Holmgren, Mariucci nor Gruden type that can handle this Favre-esque personality; but the physical tools are there... Many of the other kids that are highly rated have some serious flaws in their games and played at Big Schools (e.g. Notre Dame, Clemson) where they had outstanding receivers that bailed them out time and again... These three were quite impressive; if I had my choice, and I don't like my options at No. 11, I try to add a Day 2 pick and move back 5-10 spots... Believe me, there are teams that want that 11th spot real bad in this draft... |

Players have got to be available as Payton says... Really like Watt, but I'm starting to see how he could be a reach for some teams in the first round... He's projected for right where we'll be in the second round, and I'd love him as a linebacker to compete with Ellerbe... Watt, Moreau and Evans are among my favorites for this draft... See Kittle as a fourth, fifth round pick, but you're right that teams may reach late in the third as they're not alot of good TEs in the league right now... |

Re: Fanspeak 2017 NFL Draft Simulator
Just ran a new mock...
Round 1, Pick 11: Derek Barnett - DE - With his production in college, and readiness for the NFL, should give us a solid, young DL able to put pressure ad get sacks for many seasons R1, P32: Tre'Davious White - CB - Overall top ranked CB in 2016 by PFF. Can play inside or outside, and can also return kicks. Good production R2, P10: Joe Mixon - RB - Controversial pick with his history, but the fact he came in for a private visit, when we have a history of avoiding such players, indicates he's a prospect that we may not want to overlook. Productive as a runner and receiver, and arguably to three in the nation R 3, P12: Cooper Kupp - WR - Some more young blood for our young WR corps. May be the best route runner in the country, but from a smaller school. Shined at the Senior Bowl. Rarely drops a pass, with good height at 6'2. R3, P39: Teez Tabor - CB - PFF has him ranked as the 3rd best CB, and has allowed a passer rating of 41.2 over the last three seasons. For reference, the passer rating for throwing the ball into the dirt every play is 39.6... again, that rating for the last three seasons. #TaborIsland https://www.profootballfocus.com/dra...or-cb-florida/ R6, P12: Lorenzo Jerome - S - small school safety with ballhawking skills. Put this on display at the Senior Bowl where he had two interceptions and a forced fumble in the game R7, P11:Eric Saubert - TE - discussed Saubert before. Had a great East-West Shrine week. Had some drops in his career but also made great plays. High reward TE for the 7th round |

RB CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY STANFORD McCaffrey would be like adding Nitrous to this offense (perhaps what Payton envisioned Reggie Bush); as bad as this defense needs the talent, McCaffrey's skills would allow the Saints to improve time of possession - thereby helping the defense... 32: R1P32 DL MALIK MCDOWELL MICHIGAN STATE Doubt he falls like this, but if McDowell were there, he's be the perfect complement to Cam Jordan; he rarely loses 1:1 and putting him out on the end, with his length, range and athletcism would be the final piece on the vice to squeeze the life out of opposing passers... 42: R2P10 CB FABIAN MOREAU UCLA He effortlessly runs with receivers, mirroring their routes as well as the receivers know them themselves; he'd be the perfect insurance policy to either of our starting CBs and will be an All-Pro before long... 49: R2P17 S MARCUS WILLIAMS UTAH While I prefer more physical safeties like Josh Johnson; I want a safety with length who will always be their in the backstop to have a chance at making a play, and Williams has ability to do just that... 76: R3P12 WR CHAD HANSEN CALIFORNIA This is the next great steal at WR for the Saints; go, watch his tape; if you thought Kupp was something, check this guy out; ridiculous catches and has already worked in a pro system with Davis Webb... 103: R3P39 EDGE TREY HENDRICKSON FLORIDA ATLANTIC This is a Bill Parcells/Sean Payton football player if ever there was one; he already may be better that Paul Kruger was at this stage of his career; great interview, positive personality, loves football, and shows the initiative it takes to be great in the NFL... 196: R6P12 LB JORDAN EVANS OKLAHOMA I really don't believe Evans last past the end of the third round because he does something most LBs can't do - he can cover RBs, WRs, and TEs; Pro Combine snub who ran off fantastic sprints and shuttles at his pro-day to prove he belongs... 229: R7P11 G COREY LEVIN CHATTANOOGA Late Bloomer, Diamond in the rough; I wouldn't take a chance of letting this kid become a UDRFA; He could be starting by year 2... Re: Fanspeak 2017 NFL Draft Simulator
This is d*mn near close to the draft I'd like to see for the Saints...
No. 001 (R1, P11) RB CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY, STANFORD Class act, smart, athletic, good blood lines, WINNER, LEADER and would be a great prescence in the huddle to transition from Brees to (x) someday; then there's the fact he's an athletic freak and your modern day half back who can run, catch; as I've said before, he'd be like Nitrous in this offense... No. 032 (R1, P32) LB/DE T.J. WATT, WISCONSIN The more games I'm able to go back and watch, especially in chronology, you can really see his game progress; huge ceiling; he's an absolute playmaker in the flat; good bloodlines, but he's earned his own keep and will continue to get better; versatile and athletic, former tight end... No. 042 (R2, P10) CB KEVIN KING, WASHINGTON Payton has talked a lot about length and being able to play press and run with bigger receivers like those in our division (e.g. Julio Jones, Mike Evans, Greg Olsen/Kelvin Benjamin) and this kid has done it quietly while Syd Jones got the spot light; previously I had Moreau here, and I'd be happy with either one... No. 076 (R3, P12) TE ADAM SHAHEEN, ASHLAND This kid is basically Jimmy Graham, big running jumping deer, but he's bigger and can aid in blocking as well; he physically is everything you'd want in a TE; both the most important aspect about him is that when he realize he'd reached a ceiling in basketball, he regroup and developed himself into a top NFL TE prospect pretty much on his own drive, initiative and put his school on the map when no bigger programs (Ohio State) wanted him and now regret it; and if he'd played for the Buckeyes, his name would be right there with the kid from 'Bama... No. 103 (R3, P39) WR CHAD HANSEN, CALIFORNIA I really like this kid's game and he's an absolute perfect complementary wide receiver to what we do; and should we have a brief injury with Can'tGuardMike, this kid has the money hands, speeds, and subtle route running to take over in a game. Check his film and i'll become evident almost immediately... No. 196 (R6, P12) QB CHAD KELLY, MISSISSIPPI Okay, besides Brett Favre, can you name another quarterback that beat Bama and Auburn in the same year? He has the strongest arm in the class; he may be a bit thick in the head, but he's got bloodlines and game to boot; perhaps taking him here will give him the humble pie he needs to start anew; and his arrest was for defending a family member in a post-game melee, not punching a woman. No. 229 (R7, P11) LB JORDAN EVANS, OKLAHOMA This kid can run and cover, but he does need some work on scheme, reads, etc, but that's okay as he'd be able to contribute and have an impact on special teams immediately and develop behind Klein... http://fanspeak.com/ontheclock/premi...t.php?d=lwqiwe There are six other players I really like in this draft... LB Reuben Foster, Bama - After the Klein signing, I backed off some; and then there were reports he was just okay in reads in meetings with teams; plus, I'm concerned about his medicals long-term without a 3rd party exam after the "Do You Know Who I Am?" flap... DL Malik McDowell, Michigan St - I'd abso-freakin-lutley love to line McDowell at an End opposite Jordan; he should have been at the DE spot but played NT for the team; he's nearly unstoppable 1:1 and would be the perfect guy to throw into our DL mix... CB Fabian Moreau, UCLA - Breaux and Moreau, can just hear it now; most impressive CB running with WRs in the draft; the former RB almost knows what the WR are going to do before they know what they're going to do; he looks like the epitome of tight man coverage... OT Ryan Ramcyzk, Wisconsin - I'm a sucker for self-starter, own initiative types and Ramcyzk is probably the best former walk-on to be in the NFL draft in the last ten-plus years; he's an absolute monster and I'd even go so far as that if we drafted him and traded Armstead, I'd be alright with it... OG Dan Feeney, Indiana - Gotta love a big, burly nasty guard who can intimidate defensive linemen; it won't take long for Feeney to make the ProBowl, or All-Pro for that matter; Boilles and Lampman are getting the air time, but Feeney will be the best of this guard group... DL Eddie Vanderdoes, UCLA - He's been on the bad end of a freak injury during a celebration and his recovery has been hampered by poor conditioning; sure wished he could have committed or played for better programs than Notre Dame or UCLA; but this guy is an absolute monster who could dominate like Ndamukong Suh in the NFL with proper coaching, conditioning... |

Re: Fanspeak 2017 NFL Draft Simulator
Tarik Cohen looks a interesting late rounder
TARIK COHEN NORTH CAROLINA A&T MEAC COMBINE RESULTS GRADE 5.49 40 Yards 4.42 SEC Bench 11 REPS Vert 31.5 INCH Broad 118.0 INCH 5'6" HEIGHT 29 3/4" ARM LENGTH 179LBS. WEIGHT 10 1/8" HANDS OVERVIEW While only a bit over 5-foot-6 and 175 pounds, Cohen was one of the most productive running backs at the FCS level the past four seasons. The MEAC's all-time leading rusher (5,619 yards) and first three-time conference Offensive Player of the Year was an All-American in 2016, setting a school record with 1,588 yards and 19 touchdowns on 212 carries (37-339, one TD receiving). Cohen was a third-team All-American as a junior (264-1,543, 15 TD rushing; 25-217 receiving) and led the MEAC in scoring as well as rushing in 2014 (197-1,340, 15 TD rushing; 25-237, one TD receiving). Though he started only six games as a freshman, Cohen managed to run for 1,148 yards and eight scores on 195 attempts (11-152, one TD receiving). ANALYSIS STRENGTHS Nicknamed "The Human Joystick" for his ability to make seemingly impossible cuts. Plays with unpredictable movements. Can turn any play into a random game of "connect the dots." Rare ability to stop and start. Cuts are just as seamless and sharp from any direction. Field vision is excellent. Has lateral escapability to put would-be tacklers on his highlight tapes. Gifted with unusually large hands and a powerful lower body that enhances his contact balance and ability to drive for extra yardage. Very good acceleration pulls him away from tacklers and into the clear. Relentless competitor. Had four touchdown runs of 83-plus yards this season. A true weapon out of the backfield that will be tough to matchup with. Has good hands and is very slippery in space. WEAKNESSES Falls below the size standards expected from the position. Overwhelmed slower and less talented competition. Benefitted from heinous angles to the ball from tacklers he faced. Way too eager to take plays off script. Wants to swing for the fences on every snap and will have to learn when to hit singles. Too eager to bounce everything. Takes his share of negative yardage carries. Feet are electric, but footwork and run track on zone plays needs work. Takes big hits from big men when trying to fight out of tackles and squeeze out extra yards. Stature and short arms make him a tougher target for quarterbacks. Has almost no experience as a punt or kick returner on special teams. NFL COMPARISON Darren Sproles BOTTOM LINE Cohen uses a bounding, bouncing approach to the line of scrimmage reminiscent of Le'Veon Bell, but he's far less likely to finish downhill and instead looks to break it wide and out-race defenders. He's an electric playmaker who needs touches, but he's too small and unpredictable to handle much of an NFL carry count. Cohen gets easy separation as a receiver out of the backfield or from the slot and he will likely be used as an updated version of Darren Sproles 2.0. |

Re: Fanspeak 2017 NFL Draft Simulator
Pick No. 11 (R1, P11) RB Christian McCaffrey, Stanford
This is the guy with elite speed/elusiveness who will extend drives for the Saints offense, essentially putting it on Nitrous; he's the player that has been missing in those years with No Bush, No Sproles; multi-faceted contributor in the return game which immediately addresses those needs as well; great complement, change of pace to Ingram's bowling ball style; team player, leader, with plus, plus personal character traits; and when the day comes for a new QB, he'll be the calming transition leadership in that huddle... Pick No. 32 (R1, P32) DE Malik McDowell, Michigan State Really, really hope we keep this pick (and I got a growing suspicion our 2018 1st round pick may be dealt), because if McDowell falls, it'll be lightning striking twice because this guy is a Cam Jordan clone; he can play all over the line and was used as a NT out of desperation by Michigan St; he will absolute eat at DE in the NFL and force 1:1 all along the defensive line and a respected base pass rush... Pick No. 42 (R2, P10) LB T.J. Watt, Wisconsin I'd take Watt as high as 32; with Okafor in place he can backup at weak side DE or could come in and start at LBer; either way he makes plays - not just sacks, but FF, INT, TFL; he'll bring some smarts and love for the game to that defensive huddle; his progression since transitioning to an edge defender is phenomenal. Don't pass on this guy with 32 or 42! Pick No. 76 (R3, P12) OT Will Holden, Vanderbilt OT is shallow in this class, but this big hulk is Zach Strief, in fact, I'd take him here not just because it's a shallow class, but he's further along at this point than Zach was as a rookie; he could spell Zach by mid-season and is a very secure long term plan at RT... Pick No. 103 (R3, P39) WR Chad Hansen, California Sure hands. Sneaky second gear. Elite Catch Radius. Advanced route running experience. Lethal complement opposite Can't Guard Mike. And he could provide depth at the X-receiver. While everyone's looking the other way, Hansen will make 'em pay... Pick No. 196 (R6, P12) QB Chad Kelly, Ole Miss Have followed Kelly as an SEC fan; really believe a Payton/Brees locker room is what this kid needs to mature and develop as a leader on the football field; he's got a bionic arm; he's showed real moxie in beating Bama and Auburn in the same season like this guy that played at So. Miss, drafted by the Falcons, traded to Green Bay; perfect low risk, high reward candidate for the next three seasons behind Brees... Pick No. 229 (R7, P11) G Corey Levin, Chattanooga (TN) While he was a standout since his Freshman year, Levin has the smarts, athleticism, and physicality to develop into a starting Left Guard and spot starter at Left Tackle; we've got to continue to develop the depth and this kid is what the doc prescribes... Re: Fanspeak 2017 NFL Draft Simulator
Latest from Jeff Duncan
Seems a bit high for the Tackle but then with no middle rounds oicks i guess you gotta reach Dont mind the idea of trading back for Conley. Could gain a minimum mid round third going back to 16 maybe more. Round 1 (No. 11 overall): CB Gareon Conley, Ohio State Because the edge rusher they prefer probably won’t be there at No. 11, I believe the Saints will investigate trading down into the high teens or early 20s and acquiring extra draft picks. If they stay put, Conley is one of the safest players in the draft. A likely starter from Day One, he possesses the size/speed ratio defensive coordinator Dennis Allen prefers in his cornerbacks. In this scenario, I see the Saints waiting until No. 32 or 42 to address their need for a pass rusher. Round 1 (No. 32): DE Taco Charlton, Michigan After taking Conley early, the Saints will then look to the handful of edge rushers graded in the late first-, early second-round zone. Charles Harris, Takk McKinley, T.J. Watt, Jordan Willis and Taco Charlton all make sense here. The Cowboys, Lions, Eagles and Rams could all be in the market for an edge rusher, too, so it's likely one or two of these guys will be off the board by No. 32. The Saints also could trade out of the spot if one of the top QB prospects falls and a quarterback-needy team makes the Saints an offer they can't refuse. As is, I'll slot Charlton to the Saints here because I think Harris, Watt and McKinely will be off the board. Charlton is an intriguing prospect with the size and power to be an every-down starter at left end. His best football is ahead of him. Curtis Samuel Round 2 (No. 42): RB Curtis Samuel, Ohio State After addressing the team’s most pressing defensive needs in Round 1, I could see the Saints pulling the trigger on a perimeter playmaker here. Samuel is basically Christian McCaffrey Lite, a jack-of-all-trades capable of playing almost anywhere on offense. Samuel has been compared to Percy Harvin and would help replace Brandin Cooks’ big-play ability in the Saints’ offensive arsenal. Round 3 (76): FS Eddie Jackson, Alabama Safety is a sneaky need for the Saints. Jairus Byrd is gone, and Kenny Vaccaro will be a free agent after this season. The secondary could use a young free safety as insurance in case Vaccaro isn't re-signed. Jackson is a former cornerback who developed into the quarterback of the Alabama defense from his spot in center field. He has terrific ball skills and is comfortable in the single-high safety role. The Saints like players with leadership traits and Jackson is a former team captain for the Crimson Tide. Round 3 (103): OT Antonio Garcia, Troy Like safety, tackle is another position where the Saints need depth. Garcia is a developmental prospect who can take the time to learn behind Saints veterans Terron Armstead and Zach Strief. Garcia played in a quick-strike, spread offense at Troy so he'll need time to adjust to a traditional NFL offense. He could be the heir apparent to Strief at right tackle. Round 6 (196): WR Stacey Coley, Miami Late in the draft, NFL teams looks for players with one redeeming quality. Coley has one: 4.3 speed to take the top off the defense. Ted Ginn Jr. will man the Devery Henderson-Robert Meachem role in the Saints offense in the short-term but Coley is a nice future option. Coley has been compared to former Hurricanes receiver Philip Dorsett, a favorite of Sean Payton in the 2015 draft. Round 7 (229): CB Marquez White, Florida State You can never have enough cornerbacks and White has the size and cover skills to be a solid gamble at this stage. He played in a press coverage scheme at Florida State and has the athletic ability to be a solid contributor on special teams. |
