Sean Payton’s Offseason Plan Coming Into View

It looks as if the New Orleans Saints will focus on bringing in offensive and defensive line help in free agency, and may let some of their CB and RB needs fall to the draft.

New Orleans Saints Head Coach Sean Payton recently spoke with Saints writer John DeShazier about the team’s offseason, their 2016 season, and the future of the team. And the way he talked about the draft may indicate how the team plans to address some of their roster holes.

We will sign Ingram who will help tremendously in the pass rush. We will get a Marshon or Barnett at 11 and a DE or CB in the 2nd which will fill a lot of holes. We will land a couple of Offensive Lineman in Free Agency and a QB in the middle rounds and Mack from South Florida in the 6th or 7th. This will be a good season for us teetering on GREAT!

Anyone inclined to actually listen to what Sean's saying they'll be doing at this time of the year should really avoid sopping for cars right now....

Just sayin'.

I don't know... He's been a lot more open and mellow toward the media the last year or two. I don't know if it's because his daughter is/was an intern at NFL Network but I've definitely noticed something different.

Pass rusher and sideline to sideline LB.

I will be so damn happy if we can finally get the pieces I've been practically begging for for years.

Foster in the 1st, and a pass rush specialist in the 2nd?

I'd love that.

We don't need an every down RDE right away, I'd be glad to take a 3rd down pass rush specialist for now.

Lets take a guy who can rush the passer, but still has future 3-down upside with some conditioning and experience. I'm hearing this draft is freaking loaded with those types. Getting one in the 2nd round should be easy.

The sad thing is that just two years ago we used a 1st and 2nd round pick on those needs and yet here we are.

True, but just because you struck out your 1st at bat, doesn't mean you don't abandon your fundamentals on your 2nd at bat.

Can TWO Ingrams survive in the very same locker room?

Solid guards, defensive linemen that can play, linebackers that are athletic, smart, and instinctive.

I believe that the coach misspeak comes mostly when the team is in disarray and he doesn't want anyone to have an idea as to what we may do in the off season. Normally though he can be fairly straight forward when things are going well. Payton needs a couple beers to relax before he talks to the press.
