FUTUTE QB?

Jimmy Garoppolo's agent, Donald Yee, represents Saints coach Sean Payton, with whom Bears GM Ryan Pace worked for ten years in New Orleans.
There are all kinds of connections to be made like this around the NFL, but Pace's connections to Garoppolo especially stand out. Payton and Pace's Saints were rumored to be infatuated with Garoppolo in the 2014 draft and allegedly considered taking him toward the end of the first round. Payton, Pace, and Garoppolo are all alums of Eastern Illinois. Per CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, "Yee knows well just how much Payton and Pace valued Garoppolo in the (2014) draft," and "putting a deal together between those two wouldn’t be difficult."

Too much $ and draft picks. We'll continue to ride that expensive Brees train, as well we should.

Re: FUTUTE QB?

... La Canfora ...

I stopped listening.

Honestly, I believe that the Saints are going to have to go the "year too late" route when it comes to Brees. The Saints simply cannot afford to have a costly backup either in picks or in dollars, while Brees continues at a HOF clip. So trading for Garoppolo is a non starter.

It's fine for Payton to try to develop a post Brees bridge QB. But right now the Saints have too many holes to be toying around with a Brees replacement when as of right now there is no indication that Brees is leaving the building anytime soon.

Brees isn't that expensive at all in the current NFL. His percentage of the team cap goes down more and more as the cap increases by an average of 8% every year. Brees' 2017 cap hit is the same as Brock Osweiler and LESS THAN Colin Kaepernick! Here's the list of NFL QB's getting paid more than Brees' $19M in 2017.

Tony Romo Cowboys
$24,700,000

Joe Flacco Ravens
$24,550,000

Carson Palmer Cardinals
$24,125,000

Matt Ryan Falcons
$23,750,000

Matt Stafford Lions
$22,000,000

Aaron Rodgers Packers
$20,300,000

Ryan Tannehill Dolphins
$20,300,000

Cam Newton Panthers
$20,166,000

Philip Rivers Chargers
$20,000,000

Eli Manning Giants
$19,700,000

Andrew Luck Colts
$19,400,000

Colin Kaepernick 49ers
$19,365,753

This probably won't happen, but Brees really isn't costing us much and hasn't been. He makes what just about every QB in the league does, 20 mil

Exactly. And he is, and will remain better, than most of those that are getting paid more. He says he plans on playing at a high quality until the early forties. I believe him.

I totally agree with Webb and I think they'll snag him in round 3.

I would love my Ole Miss qb. in the 5th. The first time I ever seen him I knew he had what it takes. Sit him to learn behind Brees.

I suggest we wait until Drew actually shows signs of decline before we draft a replacement.

Why not just draft a QB when we actually need one? Its not like QB's need 2 to 4 years to develop anymore.

serious mocker says we will pick clemson QB WATSON and i said what the heck, really wait it does make a little bit of sense , he don't panic under pressure ---check he comes from behind and wins games ---check he will have to be a quick leaner under payton because brees wont be resigned in 18 what what wait whattttt.

Drew is underpaid IMO. I know most don't think so, but look around. I think Guido posted some numbers. Relative to what he means to the organization the man is underpaid. And I agree with Danno too. Drew is good for a few more years, particularly if we square up the offensive line.

Re: FUTUTE QB?

Due to the need to build a defense, I would not worry about Brees until it happens. Let's say for just the heck of it, 2017 is Brees last season. Could roll with McCown for one or two years while a newly drafted QB gets ready.

I say lets not wait until Drew retires or leaves. I know he wants to retire in New Orleans but the club may feel he's in decline before he does. I'm not saying he's anywhere near decline and he's still at the top of his game but to have the Heir to the Thrown in the wings would just make good sense.

I also eat that white glue. It's good on French Bread with some debris!

Everyone we pick up turns out to be a wasted pick.

I'd probably think so, or at least starting his freshman year in college.
