Saints Free agency targets: Andre Ellington may be an underrated playmaker
By John Sigler -- Canal Street Chronicles
As I’ve said before, tailback is an area to upgrade for the New Orleans Saints in 2017. While Mark Ingram is blazing his own path through the history books, a receiving compliment to him in the backfield has not emerged. No Saints tailback averaged 30+ receiving yards for just the second time since Sean Payton was hired as head coach. It’s the first time since 2006 that none of the rostered tailbacks broke even the 20+ receiving yards mark. So with free agency looming just three weeks away, now is as good a time as any to begin looking at players the Saints may pursue. The first player in my series of free agent profiles is Arizona Cardinals tailback Andre Ellington. Full story:http://www.canalstreetchronicles.com...ated-playmaker |

Hasn't done much the past two seasons, was pretty good his first couple seasons.

Marcus Murphy could still fill this role despite a major face plant he had on that one play.

Re: Saints Free agency targets: Andre Ellington may be an underrated playmaker
Ellington has been outshined by David and Chris Johnson the past two seasons. Before that, he was looking like a future star. He could do well under Payton.
But, whoever has been in charge of running back evaluation for the Saints over the past 6-8 years, has been awesome at finding jewels for that secondary RB role! At least for the undrafted or late drafted prospects. Travaris Cadet Chris Ivory Tim Hightower Khiry Robinson Pierre Thomas |

injury ready to happen pass
young injury free history Rex Burkhead RB Bengals (26) / 5' 10" / 215 / RD 6 (190) / 2013 / Cincinnati Rex is a solid, pass-catching back. Excels in both zone and man blocking schemes, as well as on third down. He was also a core special teamer for the Bengals in the past four seasons without using a pick UDFA Chris Carson RB Oklahoma State 6005 215 4.52 #32 Sr Square peg round hole? Great power determination and athetism. Solid option out of the backfield 5.8 YPC on 115 attempts during his three years. Spread offense may have not been the smartest choice for him. A more traditional offense maybe the answer. |

Thank you my friend for helping keep us informed with better player evaluation and how they could fit the Saints scheme.:notworthy: I always feel good about the off season and a fresh start after closing out watching our final game. However, this year I am excited about the subtle change over the past few years and how close we really are to having "The Team" again. |
