There's a strategy to earning compensatory draft picks and the Saints choose not to take part. We simply don't value draft picks.

This again?

If you sign free-agents equal to the ones you lose... no picks.

We don't lose big free-agents, therefore no picks!!!

Oh, never mind.

From 1994-2017, New Orleans has received the fewest compensatory picks of any team...

Ben Watson vs. Coby Fleener? Hmmm???

Contracts say no, but it is an interesting comparison...

I'd really like to see compensatory picks eliminated & the draft extended to ten rounds...

But that latter wish may hurt the Saints in UDRFA success...

Then again, it may force them to do a better job of draft management...

Cleveland had no one to lose but got a rd 3 pick, 2 rd 4's and a rd 5.

The teams that consistently get compensatory picks don't hold onto their vets too long and draft rather than go the free agency market. It's a smart strategy.......just not one that Loomis and Payton are too fond of.

Personally, I believe Godhell is still giving us the finger in this somehow. :argue:

I think we are leaning towards getting rid of the compensatory pics. An article I read the other day about the have and have nots. It was suppose to help the teams losing... but only ones who are getting the pics are the teams that won SB's. "Smart teams". They know how to play the system. You dump your high salary players and pick up lower salary picks...

To be honest, I don't remember the Saints *ever* having a compensatory pick. I'm thinking back into the 90's before the Ricky Williams draft. I just don't remember the Saints ever having a compensatory pick. Someone tell me if I'm wrong.

Exactly, we always try to replace what we lose through FA.

The Saints have been awarded the fewest compensatory picks at a total of 10.

Our last compensatory pick was Illinois LB Nate Bussey in 2011, Round 7, Pick 40...

Before that it was in 2006, Round 7, Pick 44, a receiver out of Hofstra named Marques Colston...

I think I remember Dave Wilson QB as a compensatory pick back in the Archie Manning Days.

EDIT: Nevermind. He was a supplemental draft pick back in 1981, which I believe is something different
