possibly staying home to sign our own before playing the field, fairly has to be dealt with, let him test the market see whats the average of all bids then try to keep him here.

I thought free agency started March 9. Maybe I'm wrong......but I want to res-sign our free agents first when we do get started.

Yes, it does, but every year an hour after FA starts someone will get all nervous and post this thread. I figured I would get ahead.

Seriously speaking, there is no reason to get desperate. When you have money but there aren't guys worth top dollar contracts, you stack up on mid-tier talent and under the radar signings. Plenty of talented guys out there like Fairley was last year.

Major makes a great point...

This makes me think of MLB when you have the best pitcher who's a FA & is being paid over $25mil per annum...

So the next best pitcher barely has a 1.3:1 K/BBI rate and not even on the same planet, gets, wait for it, 75% of that rate?!? Why?!?

Just sit back, cast out a reasonable offer, wait, & when the free agent's market starts to bottom, FA & agent will take the best reasonable deal...

Bet this is what will happen with Fairley...

I'm very critical of the Mickster, but one think I'll give Loomis credit for is this (at least when he DOES do it)...

Loomis tells our mid-tier FAs & their agents to go and get a market price and come back...

If they sign elsewhere before doing that, then they never wanted to be here anyways and won't be as committed to the Saints and winning here...

If they come back with close numbers from a non-rival, then they want to be here and you're not likely to over-bid - against yourself!!!
