Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes meets with Saints; would love to learn from Drew Brees

Maybe Mahomes instead of Davis Webb. I could deal with that!

Wonder if this is why we want the additional first in a Cooks deal

Both have solid upside. I like Webb a bit more of his skill set in a pocket. One thing that drives crazy about Mahomes is the way he handles the ball. He plays with it ton dropping back and while setting up. he like to fondle the ball. Not like that is a deal breaker but it does drive me crazy. If i was his coach i would be yelling "stop fondling the ball for the love of god" It does open a player up to fumbles. but the talent is there

No way we are drafting a QB in round one. To much D talent in this draft to now grab someone. We have so many needs on D the math doesn't work.

I don't see how we get a #1 for cooks either. I can see swapping our 1st for Tenn and another pick like 3rd round.

We have to move up in the draft to get Foster.

Do you think this is the year they will go after somebody ready next year?

If not wasting a 3rd rounder on another back up/long shot hope is a waste of needed picks. I just wonder if the plan is to get sombody in to loose Brees before he retires. That contract is a interesting question mark over everything at the moment

Definitely don't want Foster anymore. He was sent home from the combine for an incident with a hospital worker and there was mention of his concussion history.

I would take Watson in the first but that would be the only qb I would want. Brees is scaring me by saying he is only signing year to year. It puts us in a bad situation if he does want to leave. Other than that I only want defense.

If brees decided to go somewhere else after next season it would be a very bad move. It would take him another year after that to develop the same chemistry he has with the Saints making him almost 41 good luck.

He will finish his career in New Orleans otherwise he's not as smart as I thought and we were the only team to take a chance on him, period!

I think if we go rd 1 on a qb this would be the year. Like you said, defense depth is insane this year. If we pick up an extra rd one it would be dumb to pass on the right qb. If drew walks next year we are stuck with nothing. If Watson was there at 11 or Mahomes in the 2nd I would be happy.

If we pick good defensive players Drew will be happy here and we won't need a QB for 2-3 more years. Defense Baby!!!

Except for a RG! Everything else needs to be defense.:lightsabre:

Seth Russell has looked good. Trubisky throws a really pretty ball. He is on the money every throw. Peterman also looked good. I don't want Webb or the guy from central Michigan. Both looked like they had no control over the deep ball. Central Michigan guy could hardly throw a deep ball.

I do belive, according to readings at the time of the signing, that the purpose of the short contract structure was to give both sides flexibility in terms of Brees retiring. The terms keeps a ton of dead money off the table when Brees decides to retire.

This isn't unusual towards the end of a career. From what I remember Peyton Manning's final set of contracts with Denver were essentially year to year.

Brees has already made the committment. If he really wanted to leave, then all he needed to do was let his previous contract run out. He would be a free agent next week because the Saints cannot afford a $30 million+ franchise tag any more than anyone else.

I've seen a ton of slot wr's that could take cooks place. Y'all see John Ross from Washington???? 4.22 40!!!!!!!!

I want him to end his career here without a doubt. I think he easily has 4 to 5 years left but Im just saying if the team doesn't know 100 percent and we ignore the QB position then it could be back to the real dark days where 7-9 is a great season. I remember those days and I don't want that again.

As most have pointed out on here, when Brees goes, the next QB won't be near as good or really close to it. What's the point of grooming when Payton won't be here after Brees is done and he'll have to learn a whole new playbook?

Re: Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes meets with Saints; would love to learn from Drew Brees

The only reason to get a new QB this year is if Brees will only sign 1 year deals. The team cannot be held to ransom with a player like that.

Every year as the QB price increases he will want a rise(he has shown he wont play for a discount). The team has no leeway in cap savings, will always be paying the top rate for him,no signing him for 22ml a year early and watching others having to pay more. If he is unhappy or the team has a bad year he can just walk. Thats not a position to build a team on. If he wont sign a multi year deal i think you have to start looking elsewhere for stability.

I dont want him gone by the way
