Saints meet with Joe Mixon before Oklahoma pro day: report

Some NFL teams were upset the league didn't invite former Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon to the combine last week because it limited the opportunity to fully vet him as a prospect.

With the Sooners holding their pro day Wednesday, teams will have a chance to see Mixon work out, but a few -- including the New Orleans Saints -- have already reportedly interviewed him.

According to a report by NFL.com's Aditi Kinkhabwala, the Saints were one of four teams to meet privately with Mixon Tuesday, along with the Detroit Lions, Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns.

He is the best all around 3 down back in the draft to fit SP offense. He will cut into Marks work load and probably make Mark expendable if all goes well. McCaffrey is the accent to the offense that would not cut into Marks work load.

Mixon and McCaffrey, or The M&M Brothers, would give the saints a two headed monster in the backfield that the saints have not had in years. Just dreaming.

If all goes well, welcome aboard is all I can say. I believe in second chances and a short leash

Re: Saints meet with Joe Mixon before Oklahoma pro day: report

March 8 (UPI) -- NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma Sooners football held its much anticipated pro day on Wednesday, giving polarizing running back prospect Joe Mixon an opportunity to audition for the NFL teams in attendance.

Mixon didn't disappoint with solid numbers in the broad jump (9-feet-10), vertical jump (35 inches), bench press (21) and his only 40-yard dash attempt that was clocked in the mid-4.4s, depending on the watch.

blah blah blah

Mixon, who measured a shade under 6-1 (6-feet 3/4-inches) and 228 pounds, wasn't invited to the NFL Scouting Combine last weekend in Indianapolis because of his off-field troubles.

blah blah blah

Mixon was outstanding during the positional drills, especially as a pass-catcher. He showed off fluid strides, soft hands and smooth body control to catch-and-run in one motion, displaying why some feel his receiving talent is his best asset. Mixon struggled during punt return drills, struggling to locate, but did improve with added reps.

blah blah blah

ILB Jordan Evans who had scouts talking after the workout.

At 6-3 and 232 pounds, Evans ran his 40-yard dash in 4.51 seconds, adding excellent numbers in the short shuttle (4.22), vertical jump (38.5), broad jump (9-11) and bench press (19).

A surprise Combine snub, Evans put together a strong senior campaign, leading the Sooners in tackles (98) and interceptions (four), including two returned for scores. With his 2016 game film and his strong workout numbers, it would be a surprise if Evans isn't drafted.

blah blah blah

Although the running back under the microscope on Wednesday was Mixon, Samaje Perine has plenty of fans in the scouting community.

He mostly stood on his numbers from the Combine, but earned praise from NFL coaches for his work in the positional drills, taking instruction and applying it.

Perine put on a clinic of how a running back should look during blocking drills and held his own as a pass-catcher, especially considering he had to compete with Mixon. The Steelers, Vikings and Panthers showed interest in the powerful back and he only helped himself at the pro day.

blah blah blah

After declining his Senior Bowl invitation and choosing not to work out in Indianapolis, wide receiver Dede Westbrook had a lot on the line on Wednesday's workout.

He measured a hair under 6-feet and 174 pounds and ran a 4.40 in the 40-yard dash.

Westbrook didn't impress on the bench (eight reps) or running the short shuttle (4.39), but he caught almost everything thrown his way during drills.

He will be off some draft boards due to his off-field past, but for teams still considering him, Westbrook had a solid day.

If you haven't seen the video of Mixon knocking that gal out, it's worth a look. The article says he hit "another student". What he actually did was knock out a female with a brutal right hook.

I know some on here are going to say she was the "aggressor" or whatever because she started pushing him away, but give me a break. He wasn't "protecting himself". He got pissed and she got hurt. I don't see the logic in it and any guy that can unload on a girl for pushing him away has issues.

Not a fan of this guys character. Sorry.

I don't care. No one this day in age should be pushing, or hitting anyone. If you do you best be preapre for the possible results.

By using the stupid idiotic and outdate philosphy that a man should never hit a woman is absolute BS and gives them a free pass to attack men. It is wrong and if a B***h wants to hit a man the equal rights.

Could he have used better judgement shure but doesn't put him in the wrong on this.

What's that one saying? "If Hannibal Lecter ran a 4.3 teams would just diagnose him with an eating disorder." Still, it wouldn't make one iota of sense for us to bring in Mixon.

In the world of equality, the person who threw the first punch is at fault. This is what drives me nuts about the equality bit. You want equality to what point? Keep the woman's card on the table and stop pulling it out when it suites your needs. just saying

I do not agree with it one bit. he was in the wrong in my world

But let the interview do the talking. history says he will not be in the black and gold. Passed on players that have done far less.

If he fell to the 3/4th round then the risk/reward starts to take shape

Could easy be a changed man or could be another Galette,Hardy, Rice

If the Saints think that he is worth the risk and draft him in whatever round, I don't give a crap.
If he plays great and helps the Saints win, I'm all for it.
It would be nice to have an entire roster of great citizens but whatever.
I want the Saints to win.
I don't hold athletes up to my children as Paragons of virtue.
Just Win Baby.
Or go 7-9 forever and enjoy "doing it the right way".

If only he was a offensive guard with a nasty streak... I would be jumping for joy for the opportunity to pick him

actually the big story IMO is ILB Jordan Evans. round 5/6 and now with a bullet. round 4 would not be a reach. i was wondering why he did not get a combine invite. now i am really stumped.

he is on my radar again as high as the 4th.

Look I'm not saying that if he was being "attacked" then he shouldn't be able to protect himself. Did you watch the video?

C'mon man, if that was your daughter or your wife...you'd just tell her that she "had it coming to her"? BS. She didn't attack him. And she didn't hit him. She pushed him away and he ****ing knocked her out. Then took off like a punk.

I'm not taking anything away from him as an athlete. But any man who justifies that action based on her trying to push him away is a piece of garbage. If she attacked him and was hitting him, I could probably understand. Not what happened there. That was just a cowardly act. He lost his temper and knocked her out. Stupid and absolutely unnecessary.

I guess we'll agree to disagree Euph.

I agree with you, but for a point of fact she did slap him in the face immediately before he delivered the punch. As a man you have to learn to take the slap if it comes.

Anyone ever watch "wives with knives" or "deadly attractions", check out those crazy women. From the video, she calls him over with motioning him with 2 fingers, says something to him, pushes him and slaps him, no telling what she would have done next but never had a chance to see he knocked her out. My wife, yes my wife ,will tell you if a woman puts her hands on a man she puts herself into whatever comes next. Don't push if you can't pull. I also think he is one of the best 2 backs in this draft class talent wise.

If he is there in the 4th it would not make us look that bad. He did something stupid. Really stupid. Paid the price for it legally and financially. He will never have a clean slate but it's time to move on.

Very good chance we can get this kid in the 4th strictly because of his past. He would be a 2nd round pick if he stayed out of trouble. I'm reAlly liking this kid more and more.

A GM /owner who badly need some value talent and/or just don’t care what anyone thinks will take Mixon.

He may? Look at how every team did with Blount, and now look at how many teams would love to have him.

If we can be sure his character issues are sorted out and he wants a fresh start, the talent is there. Could be a modern day Tony Dorsett.

I am absolutely against any man hitting a female period.
That being said all of us have moments in our lives that we wish we could do over.
No one should be forced to pay for their mistakes forever short of rape or murder.
Any contract offered Mixon should have him on a very short leash and protect the team from future bad behavior.
Should his Athletic prowess exempt him from decency no, should it keep him from earning a living no.
Forgiveness is divine.

Very good comparison. Not many can be compared to Dorsett.

I teach women's self defense. You never hit a woman unless it is a life and death struggle which does happen.

Having said that.......there is something a to be said about gender roles wanting to blend where the line is almost nonexistent as to how to treat a woman and what women can do to men without repercussions in a court of law.

If a woman slaps me for no reason I will slap her back equally as hard but I will not Hit Her! No one strikes me and just walks away smiling. Male or female. It's not fair.

Like I said I teach women's self defense and believe that they need to protect themselves but that does not give them the right to be physically aggressive toward men without fear of repercussions which I address in clsasses.

Edit: Just out of curiosity if a transgender man hits you what do you do?

Um....well a slap seems too little. A punch may be too much....

Get the hell out of there!
