Malcolm Butler Just Another 'Non-Essential' Patriots Employee

Malcolm Butler Just Another 'Non-Essential' Patriots Employee

PITTSFIELD - The MBTA has replaced Pete Carroll this week as Greater Boston’s least-favorite doofus.

blah blah blah

“Non-essential” employees were told to stay home by entities in both the public and private sector. If you’re designated “non-essential” at your place of work, you might want to make sure your LinkedIn page is updated.

What makes someone “non-essential” when it’s snowing, but “essential” when it’s 65 and sunny remains a mystery to those of us outside HR.
We’re all pretty much “non-essential” in today’s workplace. Unlike Tom Brady’s balls, our opinion of ourselves at work is massively over-inflated. Employees, bosses, and even owners, are constantly being replaced by force, technology, or choice. Change does not guarantee progress. If it did, the world would be a better place with every new day.

Brady was considered “essential” until 2008. The Patriots went 11-5 that year with a QB who had not started a game since high school. That aberration of a season fueled baseless speculation and vapid conversation for six years about how the Patriots’ quarterback was just another cog in Belichick's Machine.

By October 2014, Brady was both “non-essential” and a detriment. No longer “elite,” he was considered by many to be part of the problem, as opposed to being the key to the solution.

When Brady restructured his contract after a string of solid victories, there was static and distortion propagated about the facts and motives of his new deal. Brady got a raise in his annual salary, but he gave up more than $20 million in guaranteed money to get it. Nonetheless, Brady was called out for being a phony.

Idiocy, envy and bile can be a combustible mix.

Brady felt the fury of all three in the lead-up to the Super Bowl.

All it takes is one stunning, miraculous, hard-fought, and fantastic 28-24 victory in the Super Bowl to create the illusion that the entire Patriots’ roster is “essential.”

Reality and history tell us that is not the case.

blah blah blah

Deion Branch [Super Bowl XXXIX MVP], to Wes Welker, to Julian "Six Years A Doghouse Resident" Edelman, to Danny Amendola.

Pick your slot guy.

The position itself is vital to the Brady-Belichick offense. The players come and go.

How about Malcolm Butler?

The rookie cornerback got Brady's Chevy truck on Tuesday. Perfect timing considering the chaos of Wednesday's commute into and around Greater Boston.

Even from 115 miles away, that mess looked ugly.

Does anyone think that Butler has a long-term, secure future in New England?

How many other Super Bowl stars and champions have gotten the boot from Foxborough, again by either by choice or force. Adam Vinatieri’s foot provided the winning margin in New England’s first three Super Bowl victories.

Sure.. but we should not pay any of our first round picks for this guy.

Not a first round pick

Won't be a 1st rounder or the deal is off. The Patriots are waiting for Butler to sign and the Saints are also prior to negotiating compensation. We'll get him and it'll probably be our 2nd or 3rd next year or the 3rd they gave us this year.

Yup. Sounds about right.

My guess is they get their 32nd back for Butler. He's worth the 32nd pick.

Why do I get a Larry Brown feeling about Butler?

Then what the hell did we get for Cooks?

Butler and a 3rd?

Then why didn't the saints agree to that in the first place. Butler is not worth Cooks straight up. Butler is overrated.

Was this some planned move by the FO to do a "half-assed" trade? I'm sick of Payton and his Belichik ball washing.

Have you read any of the butler threads at all? Butler is a restricted free agent. It's not as easy as just signing him when he visits. The Saints couldn't sign Butler until his tender was set by the Patriots, he isn't signed by the pats yet and we have to be careful and work out a trade that works for both teams.

I personally hope we keep both 1st round picks.

I won't die off if we lose 32, but for me it's insane to even consider 11.

Because Butler isn't signed so the Pats can't trade at this point. Catch up, Will(insert team name here)81.

Absolutely right, giving up the #11 pick would be absurd. I'd rather keep both but I could handle giving the #32, I just think the Pats will try and screw us any way they can.

Yet we were not happy when we traded Cooks for the last pick in the first round. Now, we're gonna trade Cooks for another system player(we have already seen the history Browner, Gay, Hicks, that saints guy that won the sb with pats).

Butler isn't under contract because he hasn't signed his tender. He cannot be traded unless he's under contract. Cooks was owed a $750K roster bonus the 5th day of the league year, March 13th.

So in short, Cooks needed to be moved immediately, while Butler could not, and still cannot, be moved until he signs.

So that's why your proposal cannot be done.

BTW overrated or underrated, Butler is going to want $12 million+ money to come here. That's overpriced. So I agree that a pass is warranted.

The Patriots can have this years third and next years fourth or fifth. That's it! If not, then we're drafting two corners in the first two or three rounds.

I wouldn't give anything to the Patriots for Butler. People remember Tebucky Jones looked good in that system, he got here and turned out to be a bust. Trash this Malcolm Butler deal.

Re: Malcolm Butler Just Another 'Non-Essential' Patriots Employee

Giving up No. 32 in this deep draft is foolish...Even a second round pick...Is it going to happen? Probably.

I just don't think the cap costs and draft pick are worth it when you've got the deepest draft class ever at the position...

And it's not like we haven't amassed some good cornerbacks already on this roster...

And Butler doesn't even cover the opponents' No. 1 receiver when they're taller like the ones we have to face in Jones, Evans, and Benjamin...

So you're going to pay him Top 10 CB money and let Breaux cover their No. 1?

They're probably wanting the Saints #11 pick. Which is bs. I hope they stand firm if that's the case.

Appears latest news is that NE isn't going to trade him!!!

WHEW... I think this is great because I rather use the picks in the draft!!!
