Are we better on Defense?

Have we gotten better on defense this off-season?

Re: Are we better on Defense?

with the addition and players coming off IR we have to be better

Did we get worse by keeping Sean Payton?

Re: Are we better on Defense?

Still need a starting DE and CB 1/2. Ellerbe injuries a concern. So is depth in secondary.

Hoping the draft or pending FA moves shore is up enough to be a top 15 defense.

Re: Are we better on Defense?

The short answer is no.
We kept Fairley and his 43 tackles and basically traded Edebali for Okafor.
One would think that at least two guys coming off of IR will regain starting roles.
The question mark is Klein. If he is the leader we've been looking for since Vilma, then yes we are better.

Unfortunately, it would almost be mathematically impossible to be worse. We can't just be "better"; we need to be one helluva lot better, as in 40 yard and 3or4 points-against better

Re: Are we better on Defense?

Everyone has forgotten something important....There's no more Joe Vitt and no more Bill Johnson. So yes, by all accounts and before we even acquired anyone this off season, we're better.

****, we're probably better even with the same guys starting and the same guys injured.

Hell yes we're better.

Re: Are we better on Defense?

Dennis Allen started making progress towards the end of last season. If we can stay healthy and maybe add a couple of pieces in the draft, I think we can be significantly better :bng:

Re: Are we better on Defense?

If you don't think this defense has gotten better by adding LB Coach Mike Nolan and DL Coach Ryan Nielsen...

...then you need to sit out the offseason and just be surprised when the regular season rolls around...

Re: Are we better on Defense?

With the additions of Okafor, Klein, resigning Fairley and firing the Byrdman we're a helluva a lot better already. If KI can play and stay healthy and we pick up a couple of DE and CB in the draft we will be 100% better than last year I would say pushing top 10 defense material. Offense is always top 5. I agree with JP with the addition of Nolan and Nielsen it's even better!

Re: Are we better on Defense?

Yes we have and with the new talent coming in from pick 11, 32. Then we sign Butler, hell yes by mid season we will be a top 10 D. Wouldn't that be just amazing

Re: Are we better on Defense?

We're only as good as our stats say we are. Until they hit the field it's anyone's guess. We looked better on defense every offseason for the past few years.

As he is finally healthy, we should ride the Byrdman one more year.

If PJ Williams can still remember how to spell PJ then we sure are in better shape now just getting some of these guys back on the field.

lest we forget, we've actually struggled to stay in the top 30 the last 4 years

I'll be happy if we can actually keep our starters healthy for more than just a few games

Re: Are we better on Defense?

I think we've gotten much better

The coaching staff looks to improved
Davison, Rankins, Bell, Crawley, Harris, Onyemata should improve with another year under their belt.

Getting PJW, Breaux, Kikaha, Sanford, Webb and Swann back from IR throws a lot of talent into the mix. And we likely re-sign Kyle Wilson, Kruger, Mauti, Moore among others

And with the additions of Okafor and Klein our front 7 looks better, and free-agency isn't over yet.

And this is all before we even draft in a freakishly deep defensive draft with 4 picks in the 1st 3 rounds.

No, we aren't exactly the 2000 Ravens, but its looking up.

But that means nothing,we will know in Sept

What would it take to be the 2000 Ravens?

How could we not be? We are gaining 437 players from IR and the only starter gone is Byrd. We added a starting lb, de and possibly a top 5 cb soon. After getting butler all we need is to stay the course and solidify our defense in the draft.

Sign Butler, Barnett DE at 11, TJ Watt LB at 32 and Fabian Moreau CB at 42 gets us really close!

Re: Are we better on Defense?

Have we improved enough the offense can still play like it played last year in some games?

And we are banking on everyone staying healthy? There will be injuries as we have one more hurdle now to solve by probably next offseason when the S&C everyone has been crowing out is exposed. I'm not banking on PJ Williams staying healthy or Swann. They just may not have the size to contend in the NFL. We don't know if Kikaha is really the answer or not.

First we'd have to get Bellick out of the broadcast booth and back onto the field. That would be an amazingly great thing for football fans everywhere, but not so great for the Whodat nation....

With the new rules and NFL top brass wanting some weird version of football mixed with the NBA and arena football a miracle

They wont let you play defense anymore
