THE JOE HADEN WATCH
THE JOE HADEN WATCH
One name to watch this offseason for the New Orleans Saints just might be Cleveland Browns cornerback Joe Haden. The 27-year old from the University of Florida was a two-time Pro Bowler in 2013 and 2014, but the last few seasons has been frustrating for the talented Haden due to bad play around him, injuries and a concussion issue back in 2015. Last year in the days leading up to the trade deadline, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis spoke to the Browns about a possible trade for the veteran cornerback, but the Browns and the Saints could never agree on draft pick terms. The Browns are looking to accumulate draft choices in 2017 and future years so don't be surprised to see Saints head coach Sean Payton urge Loomis to again go back to the Browns and try and make a deal for the talented cover-cornerback. In May 2014, the Browns signed Haden to a five-year, $68 million dollar extension and Cleveland may just want to unload his contract for the right price now and the Saints are desperate for a top-quality veteran starting cornerback to play opposite Delvin Breaux. Mike Detillier's Column -- What a deal - Sports - Houma Today - Houma, LA Now if you talking dumping a first and a boat load of money into a CB maybe this is the guy. Injury issues lately has been a run of groin injuries. but he is a fa in 2019 and in 2018 he becomes eligible for cap causality if it does not work out. 14 mill year cap hit 2017 and 2018. 10 mill in 2019. So there is room to rework that deal out and spreed the cap hit out a bit. In 2019 he will be 30 and a perfect age to end his contract for the saints Would you roll the dice? |
Re: THE JOE HADEN WATCH
The injuries worries me a little but yes, this is the corner I would like us to trade for if we are to make a trade (since the Chiefs would never let go of that cat Peters).

Re: THE JOE HADEN WATCH
Not the same player as a few years back hence the Browns with all the cap space in the world wanting to cut the salary
|
Re: THE JOE HADEN WATCH
I'd rather gamble on a rookie becoming an all pro than get rid of draft picks for guys nearing the big 3-0

Re: THE JOE HADEN WATCH
Fabian Moreau at No. 32...
If they release him, I'd put the Gumbo and Kingcake our for his visit... |
Re: THE JOE HADEN WATCH
Uhm... You can't end this thread now. This won't happen.
I am up here in Cleveland and there is not talk of such thing they love this dude and zero chance he is getting traded and I don't care what you offer the Browns. |
Re: THE JOE HADEN WATCH
There was talks just before the trade deadline last year wasn't there

Re: THE JOE HADEN WATCH
That reporter can make up all the crap he wants but there is no way Browns part with him. After reading that article again it sounds more like an editoral than an actual report. There is no way this guy is getting traded or released.
There is no way that is in the plans for the Browns. No way it is even being considered. No reports of any of this up here and Hue is in the media up here daily. He and everyone else here loves them some Joe Haden. |

Win now, spend what we must.
When Brees is gone then worry about overpaying key positions. |
Re: THE JOE HADEN WATCH
The problem with win now theory is that we have been up against the cap to much to be in a spending spree.
I think they learned a valuable lesson. Drafting is going to save you money and move players just before they are due big contracts. That is what the smart teams are doing. I like what they started doing last season but we won't see the change for another year or two. The only thing stopping us from getting to the SB again is a turn around on the defense and a few big plays on ST's. |

We need a starting CB. Like yesterday. Drew is aging by the minute.
|
Re: THE JOE HADEN WATCH
Joe Haden is a top corner when healthy. If we can keep our 1st rounders for this year then we have to pull the trigger. It pushes CB down on our priority list so we can have the flexibility to address other needs.

Re: THE JOE HADEN WATCH
I Like the idea. It would be a good fit for us I think and we can afford it now. Now at least we have a couple of solid options that we are looking at in free agency before we get the draft

Re: THE JOE HADEN WATCH
IMO the Browns fire sale is mostly over. They already have plenty of draft picks and even more cap space. I think if they wanted to offload Haden they would have already done it.

Here the word from the start of last year is that Joe Haden is part of the Browns plans and he isn't going anywheres. To this day there has been ZERO talk of the Brownd trading him or even shopping him. I do not believe anything is going to happen with Haden. |
