What Is Stephone Anthony's Trade Value?

I thought he was excellent in his first year?

What happened subsequently with his production is a bit befuddling. Still lots of questions on whether he still fits in. But if the Saints trade him, what is his value?

Re: What Is Stephone Anthony's Trade Value?

I thought we'd found our starting LB for the next decade in his first season.

I hope bringing Mike Nolan in propels him, Mike Nolan coached Ray Lewis and Patrick Willis after all.

Trade value, I'd say probably a 3rd or 4th rounder, if he sees the field as little as last year, we'd be lucky to get a 5th rounder for him.

Trade value might be a conditional rd7. Everyone sees us signing LBs and knows his time is short. Keep the kid for depth and maybe he will return to form.

Re: What Is Stephone Anthony's Trade Value?

I don't think we can get anything for him anymore. We've played our hand in adding the other LB's and teams know they can likely have him for nothing if they wait it out.

Nothing
He has done less than LB that got little interest in FA

Right now? Nadda. Heck we'd be lucky to get nadda.

(-$1,941,534)
which is what it would cost us in dead trade money to move him.

and I don't think anyone would give up a 7th for him

Potential still there. He'll be the ultimate litmus test for the Nolan vs Vitt comparison

For a 34 defense based team it should be very good.

Re: What Is Stephone Anthony's Trade Value?

He got a lot of tackles his first year after running the RB down from behind after vacating the spot the RB just ran through. Atrocious instincts. New D coach simply recognized that.

Can't be good. If Cooks, who was 7th in the league in yards, was worth a very late round 1rst I can't imaging anyone is breaking down the door for Stephone.

I think they'd want our eleventh. Belichick's on the line right now BTW...

With proper coaching who knows how good Anthony can be? Trading him is not an option.

Seriously, that is the great unknown. We've taken some potentially great linebackers in the past and coached them straight into mediocrity. Nolan could just turn him into somebody.

Anthony will find a role before Te'O does

My gut instincts tell me Anthony will get released, could benefit from Nolan and maybe turn into a decent utility backup LB???

Ellerbe goes first imo. Bigger cap savings and Anthony not in the tub all the time.

Likely a few snickers and maybe a soda or two... you know what? Payton loves juicy fruit, make it happen Sean.

Exactly. There is little to no trade value at this time...

In fact, I'd be pissed and convinced that Payton would be the worst personnel manager of football talent outside of the offensive side of the passing game...

Two years. He's only be a pro for two years. A great rookie season that saw him contending for Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. And he did more than make a truck load of tackles - he made plays, a lot of them. Including the NFL's first defensive two point conversion score.

And then a lost season of disconnect with Joe Vitt in only his second year.

Exit Joe Vitt, enter Mike Nolan. I'd say at the end of this season after a full, healthy run with Nolan's tutelage, then you could truly evaluate what you have...

It's a fool's exercise to consider trading him until then...

And I'll say this, if Dennis Allen is so limited in his ability to implement his vision of defensive scheme and unable to make it work, taking advantage of Anthony's skill set, then long term, I'd have my doubts of Allen's abilities as a communicator and coach...

Re: What Is Stephone Anthony's Trade Value?

IIRC, Nola (Katzenstein) did an interview with Jeff Ireland right around Senior bowl weekend and they specifically spoke about Anthony. I don't think the Saints are ready to give up on Stephone.

Edit: Found the article http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ssf...saints_article

I'd have backup for Ellerbe who really showed something last season...

Or draft Foster to replace him, let him acclimate to the NFL game...

But I wouldn't just get rid of Ellerbe without a plan to improve the position...

What is Anthony worth....Let's see here...Do you have an old half eaten corn dog? Ok...Take the stick out and break it in half.

There ya go.

+1. When Ellerbe was available last season, he has been above average. I don't have the Saints sack #'s available but last season I'm sure he is top 5 on the team in sacks, QB hurries & QB tackles for losses.

Even in a limited role, that is solid production we must have.

Re: What Is Stephone Anthony's Trade Value?

Ellerbe came back mid season and got a sack in 3 straight games.

Anthony just looked lost, losing outside contain, messing up his coverage assignments, holding penalties etc

I sincerely hope Mike Nolan can help him.

I think the X factor on defense will be coach Mike Nolan. It's hard to ignore what he brings to the table as a coach. Took the Ravens D to another level, polished up Patrick Willis in the middle (49er land), turned a 30th ranked defense in Denver (McDaniels was HC at the time) to top 10 within one year & had similar results in Miami.

There is no doubt in my mind Nolan will help Anthony this season .

I say keep the kid and see what happens. Always can do a trade at the deadline.

I think a 3-4 team might find him useful.....not so much in a 4-3.
