Saints need to begin preparing for life after Drew Brees, and they need to do it now
1 Attachment(s)
The advantages to having an elite NFL quarterback are numerous, one of the main ones being you don't have to worry about the position in the NFL Draft.
While other teams are wringing their hands trying to find the next Drew Brees, you can concentrate on other positions in the draft and trying to improve your team in other areas. http://image.nola.com/home/nola-medi...7060-large.jpg It's a tremendous luxury to have, and one the Saints have enjoyed for more than a decade. Since signing Drew Brees in free agency in 2006, the Saints have selected 67 players in the NFL Draft. Only two have been used on quarterbacks: Sean Canfield in 2010; and Garrett Grayson in 2015. The Seattle Seahawks are the only other NFL team to invest so few draft picks on quarterbacks during that span. By comparison, the New York Jets have drafted eight quarterbacks since 2006; the Denver Broncos seven. http://image.nola.com/home/nola-medi...974-mmmain.jpg Meanwhile, the Saints, with their quarterback spot locked and loaded, have been able to focus on other positions in the draft. Now, you could argue they haven't taken full advantage of this luxury, but you get the point. It's an enviable position to be in. read more on NOLA |

We already have a solid team around him. A young O-line, several young WR's, a good RB etc...
The only thing we'll need is a QB. QB's don't take 3 plus years to develop anymore. What we need to do right now is spend every dime on winning now while we have a franchise QB. I'll worry about life after Drew, after Drew. |

He's not going anywhere IMO unless he gets injured. He could still be a backup if he wanted like Flutie at 43 but I doubt he goes that route. If we miss the playoffs I could see him moving on or retiring though like Manning did. Latch on with a strong defense and go for one last ride.

There's no replacement out there this year.

I mean, we're not really winning with Drew... So I'm not that worried about what comes next.

We lost 6 games by a total of 13 points and the rest by 6 or 7. We're in every game with our offense and if we can get a top 10 defense we're in the Superbowl again. Davis Webb or Pat Mahomes with #32 or 2nd round pick will solve the problem and give that player a year or 2 with Drew!

What does getting a qb matter if Payton is not here after Brees is done? Furthermore, the scheme.
We can't be a pass first team when Brees is done. Now, I get this feeling Payton wants a qb to try to change like he did Brees(well some of it) that will make him "excited" and that's a era I won't no part of. |

The Saints 2009 post season total defense rank was 9th; 10th against the pass & 6th against the run. I want a defense that can get off the field on 3rd down |
