Trade Senirio 2: One team - One player - One Super Bowl
Here is trade to chew on.
If any team in this draft is one player away from the super bowl, it is Houston. Time to over pay and make the move? Personally I could see them selling out for Drew Houston 25 HOU 720 57 HOU 330 1st 2018 (and a second in 2019 ????) Drew goes home to Houston and the hometown boy wins them a super bowl. or For 11 and top QB in the draft? 25 HOU 720 57 HOU 330 conditional 2nd in 2018 I think win now would drive a trade like this. |

Houston isn't going to deal for a QB, even a great one, that is on the last year of his contract for all those picks. That is way too risky.

In regards to your scenario, I don't think Houston would be willing to pay that kind of price, and I think it would probably take an offer like that to pry Drew out of Sean's hands. If you're Houston you run the risk of only having him for a short time and then being right back in the same spot with a shortage of draft picks to boot. If you're the Saints you've put all this work into rebuilding the roster over the last 2-3 years and you're expected to compete right f'n now. Going through the year with a career backup or some rookie would make it really difficult to do that. I doubt Sean is willing to lose his job over another losing season, unless he can get such a ridiculously lopsided deal done and convince everyone to give him another couple years. |
Re: Trade Senirio 2: One team - One player - One Super Bowl
To build on that, I think they'd have to do a Ditka, plus throw in their stadium and cheerleaders to make a package deal for Sean and Drew. I'm not sure Drew would be all he could without Sean.

Oh and BTW, Brees has a no trade clause. So even the hypothetical blows up...

I think if you going to go all in for a SB you can throw out the trade pick value scale. It should cost Houston 2 first round picks.
I am not totally obbosed to this deal because by the time our team is set to make a run we'd need to change the rules so Bree's can have a walking cane on the field to get around with. 2 first rounders enable us to fish for D talent and a QB replacement. |

Re: Trade Senirio 2: One team - One player - One Super Bowl
If the front office doesn't believe we can win it all in the next 2 years then I think sending Brees to Houston for picks isn't the worse idea you could think of. We all would love for Brees to go out in a blaze of glory and retire a Saint, but we might come out better in the long run letting him go. It's all a gamble. Not that it means anything, but the first thing I do when I start my Madden franchise is trade Brees.
