It would have been interesting to see how Brees would have reacted to the move, given what he said several weeks ago about the prospect of the Saints taking a quarterback.

“[I]f I’m going to start and that quarterback sits, well*that’s not helping our team right now,” Brees said. “So, I want somebody who’s going to help our team right now. That’s the only difference.”

As much as I like Mahomes, I am glad it didn't happen. IMO the best move would be to bring in someone as a rookie free agent and let him compete with Grayson or just stash on the practice squad.

I think the best move is take players who are going to come in and play a lot of downs for you. Not come sit on a bench.

I am so glad that it didn't happen. I'm not buying that there aren't other QB's that seem to have that special something and you could wait until the 3rd round or later to pick them up. Just look at Kirk Cousins, Dak and Russell Wilson. Or the GOAT Tom Brady.

The fact that Mahomes was even considered with the 11th overall pick for this franchise after repeatedly fielding the worst defense in the league year in and year out speaks volumes about how broken Loomis and Payton's draft approach is.

If they had drafted Mahomes, that would have been the dumbest possible thing to do. Nothing about him screams NFL quarterback, to me. Of course, my opinion doesn't matter to NFL GM's, but perhaps those geniuses should take a lot at the history of Texas Tech QB's, and ask themselves if it's reallllllly that good of an idea. Mike Leach always had his QB's put up video game passing numbers when he was there, at the expense of all other aspects of winning. Then one of his old QB's, Kliff Kingsbury, took over and ran pretty much the same offense, as you would expect. Not one quarterback has made it as a starter in the NFL from that system, to date. And Mahomes wasn't even as prolific as some of the others. I don't understand the hype with him. He's a better athlete than the others who've come from that system, but he wasn't a better player, and he won even less.

I can't imagine the Saints were actually thinking of drafting him, but thank goodness they didn't.

The fact that the Saints really wanted to pick him with number 11 just solidifies in my mind how stupid Sean Payton really is when it comes to the draft.

It's been reported enough and even the pga golfer in the saints war room said that they wanted him at #11. Why the hell do you think the Kansas City Chiefs moved up ahead of the Saints to get him - for ****z and giggles? Just wondering.

According to Loomis it's true....wow. Did they even factor how Brees would have felt about this? And Mahomes does not have Brees maturity furthermore. Talent only gets you so far but maturity wins championships. That's why Newton does not have one.

It makes me wonder if this FO is planning to move on from Brees before he retires? Why? Brees may say he can play until 45 but the FO is not gonna take that chance.

The Chiefs almost get to the title game a year ago, and they trade up giving up a 1st next year, and draft a developmental QB. This is a prime example of an old coach, overly confident in himself, drafting himself out of a job in two years.

Drew is no dummy. He knows his days are numbered. Because of who he is we will get every ounce of him plus that added bit of motivation.

I think the best move is to wait for the draft next year or get a young veteran who was drafted high with the right skill set but never worked out with the team he was drafted. Think an Alex Smith situation. He by all accounts was a great QB but never did anything until the coaching change over in SF. I would hope we could get someone better, I don't mean Alex Smith is great, but He got a lot better in a different scheme with different coaching. If anyone can bring the potential out of an underperforming QB it's Payton.
I think he may be in the league already. I would like to see what Payton can do with Foles.

I want to know if the chiefs started of trying to get ahead of the browns and we would not trade. That makes sense as to the reason they jumped ahead of us.

Did we turn down a boat load of picks including a first in 2018?
