Re: Undrafted Free Agent Watch
ANTONIO PIPKIN
TIFFIN D2 INDEPENDENTS GRADE 4.86 6'1" HEIGHT 32 1/4" ARM LENGTH 225LBS. WEIGHT 10" HANDS OVERVIEW Pipkin was a FBS talent playing Division II football the past four years for Tiffin University in Ohio. He broke nearly all of the school's passing records during his career, even some for noted quarterback coach George Whitfield, who is in the school's athletics Hall of Fame. Pipkin was an honorable mention All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection as a true freshman (2,316 yards, 12 TD, 12 INT, 66.5 completion pct) and sophomore (2,863 yards, 19 TD, eight INT, 63.6 completion pct.; 556 yards, five TD rushing). He set the conference's record for total offense in 2015, receiving a second-team All-GLIAC nod (3,227 yards, 32 TD, six INT, 64.1 completion pct.; 729 yards, eight TD rushing). The Dragons had their most success under Pipkin in 2016, winning eight games as he was the GLIAC Player of the Year (2,534 passing yards, 25 TD, six INT, 64.9 completion pct.; 757 yards, seven TD). ANALYSIS STRENGTHS Primary bread-winner for his offense over last two seasons. Has been able to produce with his arm and his legs. Quick ball-handler with an even quicker release on inside play-action from the gun. Can send the fades and seam throws on their way with a flick of the wrist when he's working quickly. Has legs to keep defenses honest on backside in zone-read. Has a great feel for exit routes from the pocket and can make defenses pay. Takes care of the ball. Unwilling to take unnecessary chances with the throws in traffic. WEAKNESSES Short for the position. Feet bouncy and become antsy once he's unable to deliver to his second read. Pocket poise needs work. Looks for a quick exit rather than continuing to scan the field and deliver to receivers coming open. Drops eyes when pocket gets a little noisy around him. Anticipation is below average. Will hesitate to cut it loose when he has a safety on the ropes. Field side accuracy and short throw touch need work. Will need to clean up a myriad of footwork issues. DRAFT PROJECTION UDFA BOTTOM LINE Pipkin's level of competition will clearly be a strike against him unless he steps up and has a big week at the Senior Bowl. He's undersized with an average arm and needs to improve his accuracy and pocket poise. While he has proven to be dangerous with the feet, he doesn't have the physical traits that teams are usually willing to take shots on late in the draft. He may find himself fighting to catch a team's eye from the undrafted free agent list. |

C CAMERON TOM
SOUTHERN MISS CONFERENCE USA GRADE 4.85 6'4" HEIGHT 287LBS. WEIGHT OVERVIEW This pivot man with a relatively slim build and two first names has been a staple on the Golden Eagles' line the past four seasons; quarterback Nick Mullens would be the first to tell you that his success is directly related to the play of his snapper and leader of the line. Tom has garnered first-team All-Conference USA recognition in each of the last two seasons, starting all 27 games in the middle. He lined up for all 12 games at center in 2014, receiving honorable mention notice, following a Conference USA All-Freshman season in which he started nine times at the right tackle spot. ANALYSIS STRENGTHS Full-time, three-year starter. Has good lower body thickness. Patient blocker up to the second level. Climbs with a wide base trying maximize his ability to get a piece of darting linebackers. Takes quality angles to his blocks. Tries to sink and get as much bend and torque into his initial contact. Strikes with upward punch and is able to extends arms for more control. Able to withstand bull rush attempts and anchor down in pass pro. WEAKNESSES Straight-legged with narrow base into angle blocks. Inconsistent working feet and hips into position to secure his move blocks. Plays with below average balance in space and through contact. Needs to add more mass and improve his core strength. Slow to adjust assignments when needed. Snap to step quickness is off. Poor reactions and awareness at times against twists. DRAFT PROJECTION UDFA BOTTOM LINE Tom looks bigger than his listed weight, so it will be interesting to see where he measures at the Shrine Game and combine. Tom has good arm length and decent anchor, but he's a very average run blocker who will need more technique work to lock in a roster spot. |

Re: Undrafted Free Agent Watch
Annnd we got outa here without a QB. That's a sign like no other of the change in our FO!

Re: Undrafted Free Agent Watch
We can debate about these UDFAs all we want but they are all PS fodder.

Dural is nice sign for a free agent. Tons of speed, but never was consistent at much of anything else. He could have put up better numbers if the QB play had been decent, but he still has a lot to work on at being an actual WR, and not just a guy who runs deep. I see that someone had him with a 4.57 40 time. I don't know who did that or what was wrong with their stop watch, because he has run in the low 4.4's, and I believe even sub 4.4 before. He must not have been healthy when he ran that 4.57. |

Some guys make immediate impacts, while others might take a year or so, but there are diamonds in the rough among free agents. |
Re: Undrafted Free Agent Watch
Sae Tautu, LB, BYU
This guy is interesting. Pro day numbers: •40-yard dash - 4.55 seconds •225 bench - 19 reps •Vertical jump - 38.5 inches •Broad jump - 10-foot-6 •20-yard shuttle - 4.41 seconds •60-yard shuttle - 11.60 seconds •3-cone drill - 6.92 seconds |

Re: Undrafted Free Agent Watch
This is where we make our money. Drafts are our Manchester by the Sea. Depressing and hopeless. Bet we find a speedy WR that not only takes the top off but out plays Cooks. Then some nobody defender ends up making half the tackles in PS.

I always prefer our UDFA class over our picks in the 5th through 7th rounds (with some exceptions, obviously). They draft guys who either barely played, or have some kind of major issues in the late rounds, and then suddenly, when the draft is over, they find productive college players. I've always believed in production over "upside", unless the player with upside has actually demonstrated an ability on the field and not just gone to the combine and run all kinds of pointless drills, and wowed scouts, while having been extremely lackluster on the field. |

Re: Undrafted Free Agent Watch
Okay, I'm gonna say this as a good thing...
But I don't think one of these UDRFAs makes the team this year, with one exception... LSU WR Travin Duval, who's stock took a hit playing for Les Miles... Can he accelerate his learning curb to make the team, he'll be coached by one of the best... And locals will finally have their LSU player on a roster... |

Re: Undrafted Free Agent Watch
None of the UDFA olinemen we picked up have turned out to be anything special. Wide receivers? TL Lewis has hardly took a snap and take a closer look you will see pre-season performances are back to being disguised in the league. Pre-season is giving nothing away now with teams game planning for regular season matchups. A good example was when DMurray ran all over Oakland in preseason only to have a tougher game vs them in regular season. Last year a lot of our pre-season stars were regular season duds, which included Devante Harris and Kruger.

Stills had 726 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2016, while Snead had 895 yards and 4 touchdowns... Snead has had a better career with Drew than Stills had with Drew; if you want to compare each in the same offense... |

I like Dural WAY more than Dupre. IMO..Dupre never lived up to expectations. I know the QB play was mostly garbage but his desire to make a play was very lacking. We got the better of the two imo.
