Michael Floyd?

Michael Floyd, WR, New England Patriots
Part of the reason Floyd has had a slow period in free agency is an impending multiple game suspension. He was arrested for a severe DUI in December that caused his release in Arizona. The Patriots played him in a few games afterwards. Floyd was a stud in Arizona with three seasons of 800 yards or more and he’s still only 27. This could be a low risk / high reward type thing. The Saints like to bring a veteran receiver to camp just to see what they have. Sometimes it’s a quick release (Hakeem Nicks, Steve Breaston, Greg Camarillo) and sometimes it’s a pleasant surprise (David Patton). My guess is he won’t be able to play to start the season but he could help the offense. After Mike Thomas, Willie Snead and Ted Ginn, Jr. – I don’t think anything is promised or set on the depth chart at receiver. Granted, this may be a guy the Saints look at down the road after his suspension is determined and he’s served it.

2nd time he wrecked his career with a DUI. Good WR but no. Lessons like that should only be learned once when that kind of money is at stake.

Hey I'm ok with giving a guy a second chance, but once it occurs more than once it's a habit. No thanks.

Terrific talent with a far worse terrible liability; had a family member who overcame alcoholism in a spectacular way - quit a nearly ten plus year habit(s) (smoking as well) cold turkey when faced with losing what family and never touched alcohol nor tobacco again.

Maybe sitting out with a suspension and not having a contract while suspended is what he needs to get his priorities straight...

It's looking like Minnesota will signing him anyways...

After commenting on Minnesota taking Floyd, made me remember another WR candidate...

If we truly feel we have a roster spot to spare at WR, there's a practice squad receiver named Moritz Böhringer there who I'd love to develop with Curtis Johnson...

In fact, and in a bit of irony, Böhringer held his Pro Day last year at Florida Atlantic, where our one, and only, defensive end was drafted out of this year...

Moritz Böhringer has terrific size and speed, just poor development and coaching to this point in his career...

Unless he's clean and sober and we're totally convinced he's done a 180, no. Don't want a player with those alcohol problems coming to NOLA, for his own sake and others out on the road.

Doesn't matter where he goes; an alchoholic will get his drink wherever and regardless where he is...

He's not going to change until he is ready to

He's the guy the people on NFL Network were interviewing during the draft last year and talking about his chances of being drafted, coming out of Germany with basically no experience, who then suddenly got drafted not long after, right?

That would be an interesting guy to develop, for sure. Not sure we'd be able to pull him away from his favorite team, but if the Vikings aren't overly committed to him, I imagine he'd go where someone wants him. Haven't heard anything about him since he was drafted, though, so I don't know how that's going.

I think we have enough "projects" already.

Cruz seems like a no-brainer
bring him him with an incentive-laden contract and see what happens

If he does, then what's he gonna do the second half of the play? I guess he could go and tackle whoever it is that actually gets the ball.

Good point. Michael Floyd will be too drunk to run good routes!

I wouldn't say a couple of DUIs "wrecked his career". It's stupid and dangerous but it doesn't mean he's a bad person and certainly doesn't make him a bad player. Hopefully he can get help and thrive.
Something similar happened in Atlanta a while back. They got a guy who had a drinking problem and wound up trading him to Green Bay. I can't recall how that turned out for Green Bay but second and third chances can make a difference.
I forgot the guys name but he played for a while.

I didn't comment on this before until now. Regardless of his character, I did not want him. He was okay with Arizona and lacked consistency, would wait until the middle of the season every season to even show anything. He did have some explosiveness at times but John Brown overtook him as the deep threat quickly. Then he was relegated to possession outside receiver, where he was still as inconsistent. The cards eventually got sick of his song and dance and that was a team that before last year was spreading the ball around well.
