Injuries happen

Injury is the biggest equalizer in football today. Every year players coming off big years go down. And am I worried about Thomas going down? You bet. And if he does, do we have a answer? That is a flat out NO.

The last thing I want is to have another losing season as a result of injuries in crucial positions. This is why you don't get the ego Payton had when he decided to trade Cooks. This is a era of every other year success and I have a bunch of players' names I can show to prove that.

What?

Re: Injuries happen

Allen Hurns 2015
Eric Decker 2015
DeMarco Murray 2014
Le'veon Bell 2014
Mike Evans 2014
AP 2013 and 2015
Doug Martin 2012 and 2015
Alfred Morris 2012
Todd Gurley 2015

Look at all those names...........after those big years what happened next year, they either slumped badly, underused, or got hurt. Since Thomas won't be underused and slumping is not in his DNA, it could be injury.

This is why I want us to sign Decker if he's released. He's the same type of receiver as Thomas is, wideout that takes small passes but can take it deep, redzone success.

Re: Injuries happen

I'm not worried about it just yet, but yes it would provide some assurance if we could sign a veteran possession receiver to contribute.

But we haven't even reached June 1 cuts yet, still got some time to work with. And there is the outside chance that LSU kid or someone else on our roster goes bananas and emerges for us. Perhaps Tommylee can elevate his game.

Even if he does emerge, it's not going to be at the level Thomas was last year. If Thomas goes down, it could be good for Ginn which he will get force-fed targets in that case. But if he doesn't get the extra targets, then we better be darn good running it.

It's called being realistic. What happened last year is never a recipe for next year.

Not a huge Decker fan, let's just pray we don't get busted up this year. Not even to rookie minicamp and I'm already depressed.

Our offense has always survived the injury bug. Credit Brees for that. Defense is another story. So many injuries in the backfield year in and year out for 4 years isn't just happenstance. Somebody is doing something wrong with that position group.

That being said this thread is just silly. Way to early to worry about any of that. Don't worry I'm sure your fantasy football stats are safe. Relax and take a deep breath and quit posting asinine things.

Lol. Ok. I understand if we have an injury at a critical position, but that's like running thru life saying "what if?".

Bottom line is that you can't just lose your **** because of a possibility. Injuries are part of the game man. And there's little doubt in my mind that Payton will have someone ready to step up. Man you weren't around for the days when this offense ran like a well oiled machine without big name receivers. I know it was before Payton (and probably before you as well), but do you think Joe Horn was awesome before he came to NOLA? Hell I think he was cut by multiple teams. There was Willie Jackson, Poole, Floyd and so on. Dude Colston was a 7th round draft pick out of a school that no longer has a football program.

Hell look at Lance Moore and even Willie Snead. The list goes on and on.

The Saints, especially under Payton, always have WRs ready to jump in and catch passes from Brees.

Would I freak out if Thomas got hurt? Of course. But I have more confidence in this program and it's development of WRs then any other before it, and there were some good ones.

He doesn't cheer for the Saints. He cheers for individual players that put up stats. He already made a post saying he was done with the Saints because Brees and a couple other guys weren't giving him the stats he needed for fantasy. He said "I only started watching the Saints because of the stats their offense puts up"
I think that should be a bannable offense. Send him back to SR.

The only saint I had on my fantasy team last year was Thomas. Yes it's way too early but not when you realize a Thomas injury leaves our offense up to Snead, Ginn, Coleman, and Fleener to keep a offense churning out 30 ppg. They scare no one and that would make it hard for the running game. Did you see this offense in 2014 when Cooks went down? It was putrid. Yes we had oline problems but we only had Graham and Stills at productive levels. This cannot be ignored until TC. I am hoping for Decker.

Colston was elite though. Had he played for LSU or Bama he would have been a first rounder.

You'll get over it when you see the explosive year Gronk has not had since 2011 with Cooks drawing defenses, leaving him open. Little does anyone know if we do not beat the pats that team could very well go 16-0. We gave the pats another explosive 07-like offense.

And you will also get over it if Thomas gets hurt and the offense plays like 2014.

Yes he is a perfect fit for SR... can we trade him to SR ? Is that possible... BnG would be a lot better without this goof posting ridiculous things...

Re: Injuries happen

I brought this up because I have been thinking about FF so early now and the fact I won't draft anyone but DJ among RBs in round 1 and how I feel Demarco is gonna get hurt so Henry has his chance. My fantasy strategy is based on every other year and how often players come back from down years and how players with sudden surprise years end up not sustaining that success. Thomas came to mind quickly when naming my recent success of picking up players in free agency in Evans(2014 he was not the #1), Hurns, Decker, Thomas, TyWill and how the first three nevr did as well the next year because of injury(Decker), misuse(Winston) or bad qb play(Bortles). I am just saying.

I mean if we run the ball more, Thomas probably will have less yards and TDs and that will be his down season. I can see the Fleener second year effect anyway because I stand by Brees and his "second chance reputation"(as is the motto of NO city itself) he has and the fact SP is going to experiment with his new toys. I'm not expecting another 11 TD season from Thomas one year later.

Colston was not elite. He was a very good player who also benifited from Brees play, gave 100%, and stayed out of Drama.

I could care less about Gronk, Cooks, Brady, and the Patriots. Your if Thomas gets hurt applies to every team. What if Cooks and Brady get hurt? How is Gronks back by the way? Our offense goes through Drew! You should be more concerned with the health of Armstead, Peat, Unger, Warford, Strief. Keep Drew upright. We lost Sproles, Graham, Bush, etc and kept rolling. Heck If PJ Williams, Breaux, Rankins, Ellerbe, Kikaha etc had not been injured, we may have made the playoffs last year.

How does Peat, Williams, Rankins, Elelrbe, Kikaha help in any way against the giants, chiefs, broncos, lions, and bucs? They may have helped against Oakland and one of the Atlanta games but most of the games with bad defense we actually won. No one looks at that.

Are you serious? Nearly half the starting defense on a team with limited depth!
We had guys out there that were lying on the couch watching the season openers like we were. The defense was much improved in the games Elerbe alone was able to play in!

Do you believe a healthy defense could hold the bucs to 10 points on the road? Hold the giants to 10 points? hold KC to 17 offensive points?

3 phases. offense Defense and special teams. Interested the games you mention had more to do with offense and special teams than the Defense holding teams to point totals. Blocked kick return for a TD was the difference in Giants game, 3 Interceptions by Brees in Tampa, and a Pick 6 by Brees going into halftime at KC. All on the road by the way. The Denver game was also a special teams disaster. I will no longer engage you as many others have. I'm now on Troll alert

Huh? I was pointing out defense had little to with those games.

I never factored anything like that. I brought up something fixable(before the season starts). I had my worries about Unger though because of his age but never even brought him getting hurt up. Don't turn that crap around on me.

Being invited to the pro bowl has nothing to do with players being elite. All Pro is elite.
