Saints sign QB Justin Thomas
 

The signing of Georgia Tech quarterback Justin Thomas was previously reported Monday.

What was unclear, however, surrounded the position the New Orleans Saints intended Thomas to play after he had a successful tryout at rookie minicamp, where he worked out as a wide receiver and defensive back.

Clarity arrived Tuesday on the NFL Transactions report, which reflects the Saints officially signed Thomas as a defensive back.

Thomas, who is listed as 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds on Georgia Tech's website, will make the transition from offense to defense.


An athletic player, Thomas posted a blistering 4.35 time in the 40-yard dash at Georgia Tech's Pro Day in March. He produced 2,163 yards of total offense (1,559 passing, 604 rushing) in his final season at Georgia Tech, adding 14 total touchdowns (eight passing, six rushing).

Shot I wouldn't mind seeing him play a lil O and being another gadget player for Payton. Obviously the kid knows how to get to the endzone......

This move gives a definitive answer as to who will replace Brees in 2020. Coupled with trading up to get Kamara, it's now becoming clear that we will be running the option flexbone next decade

I agree. I had the good fortune to see Hester take one to the house in the first ever NFL game I ever attended back in 2007. It was a sight to behold and just turned the game.

Thomas played at Georgia Tech. The image shows a game where Tech played (and beat) Tulane.

The Saints signed Travin Dural. I guess I didn't see that guy playing for LSU.

Uphill battle but a great athlete. He should just stay at Aaron Glens house. No one better to learn from. Plus, with the Saints injury history at CB, he could be starting next to Lattimore in the blink of an eye.

I remember the Saints signed Saalim Hakim a few years ago. Sub 4.2 guy but couldn't catch a cold or provide any value on special teams. Let's see what the new kid does when the bullets starts to fly at camp.
