Trey Hendrickson's competitive fire burned through lack of attention on path to New Orleans Saints

Really excited to see what he can contribute and be a part of for this team..

There's also a great video on the story's page - including an interview where he tells that his "mom loves the organization"...the interview in the video reveals a lot of good information and why it all came together for Hendrickson to the Saints

Yep you watch this kid play and it is nothing but impressive. Well coached in pass rush moves and solid against the run.

It is all about the huge jump to the NFL talent from Div 2.

Not like a youthful upgrade to the bench at DE is not needed also.

either way I am looking forward to watching his game develop

It'll be more about adjustment to competition than development with this young man...

He's moves and skills were heads above the competition at the AllStar games...

I have a real good vibe about this kid. I see him getting some snaps and contributing this year and continuing to get better as the season goes on.

"Back when I was coaching in the Big Ten, I would study other productive d-linemen in the league, and (Trey's) size, his dimensions, some of the things he does, he reminds me of (Ryan) Kerrigan, who used to play at Purdue," Partridge, who coached Watt at Wisconsin, said. "From a talent standpoint, that's who he reminded me of."

That's a fantastic comparison! Right on the money.

My favorite guy in our draft this year. His size, strength, motor, & speed along with working with a NFL D-Line coach is a promising prospect. Him working against our offense this training camp will also help. Very excited.

Ryan Kerrigan is not a bad guy to be compared...

Hendrickson could still bulk up another 15 lbs easily or get real slim and even standup on the edge...

Very, very versatile player; absolute steal...

Curious to see where Hendrickson is lining up this week in OTAs...

They've probably got him paired with Cam Jordan who is very close in size...

...but, I can see a rotation of Okafor and Hendrickson more likely...

...Kerrigan is a nice comparison, but he also reminds me of a younger, healthier Paul Kruger...

JP, PFF makes this comparison...

Player comparison: Brooks Reed, Atlanta Falcons

Reed and Hendrickson are incredibly similar as pass-rushers right down to their overused and rarely effective spin move. Hendrickson has a bit more explosiveness than Reed, though he’ll likely struggle as a pass-rusher early in his career until he’s coached up to an NFL level.

Would you say that's probably a more realistic comparison than Ryan Kerrigan?

Actually Chris, right now I believe Hendrickson is better than that...

Context? I'd say Kerrigan as a ceiling and Paul Kruger as a floor...

For this draft, was really hoping we'd take Malik McDowell as a DE and Trey Hendrickson...

But to get a future starting LT of the caliber of Ramcyzk, even if we have two already, is golden...

Between kikaha, Okafor and Hendrickson we might have something going on at RDE across from Cam Jordan.

And don't forget, we signed insurance policy in Darryl Tapp; plus Onyemata played as much DE last season (which may be his future on the strong side) as he played on the interior...

I understood that the team might have him rotating with Jordan to keep him fresh.

That's what they were doing at the end of last season...

Onyemata would spell Cam...

Fairley would come in on passing downs for Davison...

Versatility, mismatches - it's a chess game...

Curious to see if Zimmer can make the squad, then it'll get real interesting...
