Saints plan to be 'smart' with Hau'oli Kikaha's Return...

When I was real young, a knee tear was the end; but even with today's medical advancements, three sure seems insurmountable...

Still, am pulling for the guy, just think he needs to be in a 3-4 and not down on the line where he has to anchor on that knee...

In D.A.'s 4-3, he needs to play WLB if he's unable to cover TEs effectively...

Everyone says "Well Thomas Davis could do it." Yeah, literally the only player in NFL history. Kikaha already wasn't the most explosive player. Is there any more giddy up left in that horse?

And Davis was a safety who lost a step and moved to outside linebacker at that...

Unfortunate but at least we didn't draft someone with horse parts in them AGAIN. Mind bending we wasted a pick on a player with that situation years ago but we did. Believe it was under Ditka.

Thought that was DE Greg Romeus in the 2011 draft?

Chase Lyman. He had animal parts and we drafted him in the 4th but in 05, so not Ditka.

Negatives … Medical risk, as he has undergone six surgical procedures and missed 26 games due to injuries during his career … Has good timed speed, but like most big receiver as, he struggles a bit to stay low in his pads and gets too high and erect in his release …

Sproles went 12 picks later but I will get off my soap box of drafting injured players.

Lyman, yeah, I remember thinking, why not take Cal's quarterback when he was there, but, no, we took Lyman...

Odds are it's time to get lucky and stay healthy.

If we're going to keep Kikaha and not ship him off to a 3-4 team; I'd really like to move him to the WLB spot and shift Anzalone to either the Mike or Sam (preferably the Sam like Fujita)...

Post draft Payton stated Anzalone would probably start out at WLB. Camp should be the telling story there.

I think some of the confusion about where Anzalone is playing is due to the evolution of the defense. Our WLB is now almost as likely to blitz has he is to drop into coverage on passing downs. Since we spend so much time with 2 LBs and 3 safeties, that WLB is the new joker LB position (sorta). He could be a wildcard that could be doing anything on any given snap. At least, that's how I feel Ellerbe was used last year, and how I expect the WLB to be used this season.

This ship has sailed. Impossible to recover from that many ACL issues. One, ok, maybe. Beyond that, no. You are a fool hearted fan if you have faith in that situation.

I tend to agree. Mentioned it in a previous post that after 3 torn ACL's, anything positive we get from Kikaha is Lagniappe.

All the injuries we have had have mainly come from players who has a past history of it or got hurt the first season. Rookies aren't as big as seasoned NFL players and a injury to them before even taking a real snap can be traumatizing and and they are fracturing and breaking bones surrounded by smaller muscles. That can be something hard to overcome.

This has been the FO's problem drafting players with elite upside to be gotten in later rounds due to injury rather than getting decent second round and later talents like Perryman.

The more we look at it, the 2015 draft was a bust. Because we have four injured players, one no longer on the team, and a seventh rounder that's been mediocre and not excelling in the return department he was drafted for. We additionally have drafted one other slow to get up player. The only players we drafted that's amounted to anything in terms of both play and staying healthy were Peat and Davidson.

What the hell are you talking about? There is so much about that first paragraph that is just plain ... well, dumb, for lack of a better word.

Why we draft guys with a history of injuries boggles my mind. This team already has bad enough luck with injuries.

All teams draft players with a history of injuries. Few players emerge from their college career without some sort of injury either in high school or college. You can go to any team forum and read the exact same sort of statement you just made.

Eric Asher (New Orleans Sports Show Host) brought up a good point that the Saints do need to eval their medical resources with OHSM (Ochsner) and their risks with injured players...

Either way, with the talent the Saints have accumulated at CB the last three seasons, they seem to be better prepared for the attrition of the NFL this season...

LB Tom Davis of the Panthers says Hello.

SP had brought this guy in very briefly before his third surgery. Dr. Andrews fixed him up nicely as evidenced by his recent play in the last few years.

Re: Saints plan to be 'smart' with Hau'oli Kikaha's Return...

Wouldn't mind seeing a pass front of:

DEFENSE

DE (2) 94 - Cameron Jordan, 93 - David Onyemata

DT (2) 98 - Sheldon Rankins, 92 - Justin Zimmer

NT (2) 95 - Tyeler Davison, 90 - Nick Fairley

DE (2) 57 - Alex Okafor, 91 -Trey Hendrickson (R3, P103)

SLB (3) 54 - Nate Stupar, 50 - Stephone Anthony, 44 - Hau'oli Kikaha

MLB (2) 53 - A.J. Klein, 52 - Craig Robertson

WLB (2) 59 - Dannell Ellerbe, 47 - Alex Anzalone (R3, P76)

Kikaha could come in on "46" type sub-packages and contribute that way till he's at full strength...
