Sophomore spotlight falls on Sheldon Rankins, David Onyemata with Saints facing Nick Fairley uncertainty
Rankins has to play like a No. 1; Onyemata has gotta be force on 3rd Downs...

Cam Jordan, Rankins, Onyamata and Okafor/Hendrickson/Kikaha. Onyamata basically put up half the pressures and QB hurries that Fairley did last year and will not be as effective until he's a little more seasoned. I mean he didn't even play football until he went to college in Canada four years ago. He played well while learning on the fly last year and I expect him to make a sophomore leap but I can't expect the same pressure from Onyamata that Fairley would have if healthy.
The way I see it Onyamata is a good run stuffer and Davison is good at rushing the passer.( I may have these two confused) My point is that between the two of them we should be more than adequate in the middle with a little additional pressure coming off the edge on the right side opposite Cam. |

He relieved Cam Jordan often and early last season at DE; his athleticism/size makes him very versatile... Onyemata has pretty much learned the pass rush tree if you will - Rip, Bull Rush, Stunt and Spin... All Ony needs to do know is learn how and when to use those moves like a MLB Pitcher learns to set up a batter for the strikeout... And Onyemata is very close and I wouldn't be surprised if he's starting several games based on matchup by the end of this season... |
