We are beginning to see the impact of Mike Nolan. I agree with JP, here. He was the Saints best off-season acquisition hands down.

All I need to hear is Mike Nolan coached two of the greatest LB's ever to play the game, Patrick Willis and Ray Lewis.
Very happy with the Mike Nolan signing already. |

I saw this brought up somewhere else and I thought it was an interesting idea... What's stopping us from having Klein wear the headset at Sam and be a three down player with Anthony at Mike coming off the field in nickel or other sub packages? Usually it's the Sam who comes off in nickel or dime but it doesn't have to be that way.

He has a good coach now. It won't take long to figure out if he's got it or not.

Re: Saints are seeing early progress from Stephone Anthony as he tries to rebound from a frustrating season
My high school history teacher failed me because I was bored, never applied myself and didn't earn a passing grade. He was possibly one of the most boring speakers I've ever had to sit through. When I went to college my professor was a creative picture painting genius. I saw battles coming to life and could see history unfold in a fascinating way. History then became my minor in college.
It's funny what a good teacher can do for people after giving the students the proper tools to succeed. I'm hoping for Anthony to put it all together with Nolan showing him how to do it. He started with all the right tools and hopefully it was Joe Vitt that just confused him rather than tailoring a method of coaching that would specifically suit him. |

I remember our Free Safety called all our defenses... Typically it's someone who has a good view of what's happening... So a MIKE, FS, or SS makes sense... |

My Senior Year, I spent the last three weeks lunch period with my Physics teacher... He couldn't understand how I could score so high on the ACT in science and be horrible in Math... In those weeks, we did a "refresher" of Algerbra, Trig, Calc... My Freshman, Sophmore College years - Mathematics classes were my strongest and easiest taken... It takes a willing student and a patient teacher; sadly most of my teachers didn't have patience with me and were just mailing it in for the check... Will always be grateful to my HS Physics and Geometry Teachers for what they did for me... Even if I rebuilt their Lister Engine Generator for their Camp in trade... |

And then between D.A. and Vitt, he got thrown off course as in only his second year... Nolan will provided stability for the linebackers and make it the strength of not only the defense, but the team... While my personal preference is for Anthony to start at the Mike, I just want to see him get a real shot with a real LB coach... |

Kaztenstine a day later with similar report, analysis, and more quotes from the Saints HC, DC...

I think if SA succeeds, it's going to be at the MIKE position. Coach em up Nolan! |

Surely you can't be serious! Of course I'm a genius! I know all about boobs, cats and theoretical physicist!
I took a bullet in the labrum over Macho Grande!! I told them not to send George Zipp on the mission too! They should have sent "The Kid" and don't call me Shirley! Heard a rumor from the Saints Training Camp! What is it? That place on Airline where the Saints practice!! |

Mike Nolan, savvy, veteran coach that he is, just has a natural way of communicating and get his players to respond that they're processing his lessons or neaux... To you're original question about Klein, in an article a few weeks back, Klein revealed he's been seeing time at both Mike and Sam and that Saints coaching told him as much; he played SAM in Carolina and had the speed and skills to cover tight ends and most running backs... While the Saints like their 3-safety sets with Vaccaro coming up in a Thomas Davis role, I suspect now that the talent has improved at the LB position, we'll see more base sets with Klein-Anthony-Anzalone... |

My dad used to tell me that former GM Jim Finks always preached it takes three years to develop a player (Peat/Anthony). Well .... this is year 3.
Here's to hoping they both play lights out in 2017 :drink:. |

I do believe however Stephone could be a sleeper. Some guys may take a few years before it "clicks". Last year he started a new position and I don't think he was 100% healthy either. Now he has the tools (elite teacher in Nolan), to make a major leap. No excuses this year though. He has to bring it. I look at players like Craig Robertson or Klein who took a few years before they made contributions (although I think Stephone has more raw talent). Whether it's nickel, base, dime etc., the competition at the LB position should be strong. |
Re: Saints are seeing early progress from Stephone Anthony as he tries to rebound from a frustrating season
The LB squad could help the Saints 2017 defense become a version of the "No Name Defense" that Miami had back in 1972.

what are the odds that Nolan replaces DA in the near future?
