We need something for this team,. I hope somehow he can be a spark. Brees could not save us as a team so it is just not one person. It has been a tough 3 years actually more than that. We have witnessed the downfall of this team and we find ourselves in a tough division. We have been out paced by all the teams in our division and have not been able to keep up. Such a shame when we have a good offense and our defense has really been the laughing stock of the NFL. I just don't understand how Payton has allowed this to go on. He is basically responsible for what has occurred. I am hoping there will be some improvement it is just hard to be passionate about this team until I see some sign that things are really getting better.

Payton has not allowed this to go on. He has totally overhauled the defense over the past two seasons. He has finally tried to give some continuity at DC for the first time in years. He has cleaned house of four defensive assistants and a special teams coordinator that most around here had been wanting gone for some time. It was not Payton's fault that six CB's were lost to season ending injuries last year.

There are MANY signs that thing are really getting better. And, personally, I am always passionate about my Saints ... win or lose.

I don't necessarily agree with the old axiom that defense wins championships. That said, the Saint's have proven (repeatedly) that one of the best offenses ever cannot compensate for one of the worst defenses ever.

If the Saints' D want to get back in the playoffs the D has to get out of the cellar.
