Just thought I would throw this out here. Jeff Blake as Backup. He's a UFA and could be had on the Cheap. What ya think?

I don\'t really have an opinion on this but why do you say no?

I\'ll tell ya this. I\'d feel much more comfortable with Blake than Bouman if Brooks went down.

For all the criticism, Brooks might be the most valuable player on this team. If Brooks were to go down for any length of time our playoffs chances would be ZERO!

Having a capable backup to Brooks is something that needs to be addressed.

Agree with Gumbo, Bouman is horrible. Blake is a lot better backup than Bouman

Blake being a veteran, and having played for New orleans and being available for the cheap might look attractive. Only issue that might arrive is the AB took his job one.

Blake is a back-up and thats it. At one time he was a good starter, but he needs to realize those days are over.......so he can come backup AB and we can send Booman back to the beach!!!

Brooks goes down in week 12. Blake comes in, leads us to another playoff victory. Poetic justice.

So, you\'re hoping Brooks gets hurt? I hear ya .. ;)

our backup QB will be the FSU reject who will shortly thereafter be implicated in the largest game fixing scandal since the black sox...by betting on sully\'s weight..horn, the entire tight end core, and the defensive backfeild will all be implicated....meanwhile brooks will charge that he had no clue what was going on..but like pete rose-arrogance will not save him.

blake couldn\'t even start in Arizona...blake was a decent football player but a locker room cancer.....big time.

for minimum pay i think he would be a better option back up than bouman. i thought exactly the same too dberce. brooks has had such a good run without injury to remove him from the lineup (should\'ve with the shoulder) that ya gotta kinda wonder if the laws of probability of the violent nfl will come into play. no hoping for ab ill. it would be irony to an extreme though if he came in relieving brooks and go into the playoffs.

i agree that Bowman suks and if Brooks goes down were in trouble. I liked O\'Sullivin but we had to do what we had to do. I read somewhere on here that he was a RFA and could prob be had for a 6 or 7 pick, I say why not get him back?

though-you know..it would be good to give AB a push...

Anyone think we could get a better QB than JT O\'Sullivan with our 7th rounder?

Thats what it would take to get him back. He already knows our system. If we\'re gonna run, run, and run some more, why not get this kid back?

JT JT JT

bottomline it just changes the mckenzie trade to be a 2nd and a 7th. smooth move to me.

Hmmm I\'d try for one or the other. It would be nice to have JT back. I think either way it would push Brooks one way or the other.

We can get McCown from Arizona for a 6th if I understood correctly.

What is up with you guys and JT? He didn\'t do anything in the preseason last year - in fact, he didn\'t look really any better than Bouman.

if we give up a draft pick for a qb that we don\'t draft...mike mcmahan...from detroit. he actually impressed me in the limited time I saw him.

I think he looked better than Bouman, but he was playing against lesser competition too.

Hard to say how good he was because of that.

The big question is could he get it done? If Arron goes down or starts to :censored: things up can whover step in and finish up. We know Bouman can\'t. I believe JT could. I Think Blake could. You don\'t have to spend time teaching the system again. I\'m really curious about Kingsbury.

he did do better then bowman in preseason even tho he had a couple bad games. I think he showed over in europe that he\'s a gamer. (he\'s a playmaker when it comes game time)

Being a fellow male, I could probably relate to Blake if he were presented with the option to back up Brooks. His pride is too high to take a job backing up a guy like Brooks, unless he were strung out on crack and needed the money bad. He ain\'t coming back to New Orleans.

I\'m all in favor. I still would like to see what he could do if he could start in a real game. I thought I saw something in the guy, but never really got to see him when it counted. Did he ever get in a regular season game as a Saint? Also, I thought it was a sixth round pick we would have to give up for him. Even so, I would still be for it.

McCown just re-signed today, so he is no longer an option anyway.

I\'m going to retract my complaint about JT. In the preseason, his passer rating was 75.1, 2 TD, 2 INTs, and 31/60 completions. This is considerably better than Bouman who\'s passer rating was 55.1, 1 TD, 3 INTs, and 33/60 completions.

While I think that JT is being made out to be more than he is, he is CLEARLY better than Bouman.

McMahon on the other hand wasn\'t any better than Bouman with a passer rating of 58.1, 1 TD, 2 INTs, and 36/71 completions.

I\'d rather get JT back, I guess.

He did get to play one regular season series. He knelt the ball down for Farve at the end of one game.

Mike McMahon was signed by the Eagles last week so he isn\'t an option any more and like JKool just posted he is nothing more than a scrambling fool. I would like to see JT back and maybe play a little more than he did last preseason to see if there really is anything to him. Hey what about Fluite as a gap stopper until we can find a long term solution. I know that he is old as dirt but he says he still wants to play.

JKool 03-31-2005 06:30 PM

I like Flutie. It would depend on the cost, of course.

Good info on McMahon. I hadn\'t noticed that. It looks like it is the draft for a QB or we\'re looking at Bouman, Kingsbury, or Finlen if Brooks gets hurt.

1. Despite what Aaron Brooks might tell you, JEFF BLAKE was the quarterback who was MORE responsible for the Saints 10-6 division winning year in 2000 - lest we forget.

2. JT for a 7th? Holy criznap, why haven\'t we jumped on that? I\'ve got $20 towards his salary. I\'ll even throw in a box of Krisy Kreme for Sullivan (gotta help Benson keep costs down, you know... and that Sully can go through some doughnuts).

3. I already have a standing offer with the Saints to raise money to pay for a Flutie contract. That guy could start over Brooks.

I read somewhere that klingsbury is a guy the saints are very high on.

baronm 04-01-2005 11:46 AM

just for the heck of it:

brooks career: 56.5 percentage 81.5 rating 101/ 67 td/int
Blake career: 56.3 percentage 77.9 rating and 133 99 td/int

and blake has five years of less than 5 games started;brooks has 1....blake also played for some of the worst teams in the NFL...ny jets, arizona, US during those years....

pretty comparable...kinda like you could interchange them-yet brooks is still starting..go figure

I haven\'t forgotten it. Nor have I stopped wondering what would\'ve happened that next season, if they\'d kept him instead of moving AB up. But I guess we\'ll never know.

At least I never seen him throw a pass backwards.
