I spent four holes at a celebrity golf tournament walking and talking with Barbara Mandrell back in the late '70's. I was covering the tournament and was wearing a "Home of Louisiana Downs" t-shirt. She saw it and came running over yelling "Bossier City, Bossier City!" She said she loved Bossier City when she had played a couple of concerts there a few years earlier. She told me all about her celebrity softball tournament and all kinds of stuff. She actually didn't play those four holes. She just walked and we talked. Finally her husband, a outright redneck with a pot-belly, said, "Come on Babs, you need to start playin' again." So she said goodbye and ran off. SO cool. I just remember how tiny she was.
