Sign him! 5 years $60 million $35 million guaranteed! Cut after the first preseason game after it's "discovered" he's 38 years old!

I'd be down. Brees is going to need all the help he can get now that he's getting older. His arms not all that strong and that accuracy can't last forever..

And in all of your brilliance exactly who do you cut to allow that signing and where does that cap come from?

They have smarter people than you believe it or not are employed by the Saints to make those decisions.

I am sure. Smarter than both of us. Happy you finally admitted that. I wasn't the one with that issue. :D

I am in happy land now that you have admitted that! LOL!!!

Hope it's the Saints. He'd be a great complimentary player and far and away the best run-blocking wideout on our team. He's not in a position to ask for too much money ... it's mid July for Pete's sake.

You mean another one. No way this happens but fun entertaining the idea of of signing a 36 year old WR. For that alone I commend him. Very impressive for a late 2nd round pick with an awful 40 time.

When does training camp start? This topic, usually with Boldin, seems to pop up every July. Frankly I've never understood the fascination.

Two quick points. First is the Saints already signed a veteran wide receiver. That would be one Ted Ginn.

Second last year should have proved that the need for a veteran wide receiver is completely unnecessary. Cooks, Snead, Thomas, and Coleman combined for over 2500 yards and 25 TDs last season without this seemingly needed veteran leadership that is called for each offseason.

I really don't understand...

No, SFIAH, you do understand. It is they who do not understand.

;)

July 26th ... "Can't wait".

I'm good with the top 3 WR's & I agree that Ginn Jr. is gonna be just fine.

So where would he line up? In the slot? Does that mean Snead shares time at wideout with Ginn Jr? I wonder where Coleman fits in this.

Ginn and Boldin are very different. Ginn is a speed threat and special teams weapon. Boldin is a physical possession receiver who is an accomplished blocker.

I'm not saying Boldin should play a major role but he would be a nice situational player. Our receiving corps could use a more physical presence, especially if we are serious about cranking up the running game with AP/MI. I'm not saying Boldin is Hines Ward, but indeed he is the closest thing out there in free agency.

Is it the end of the world if he doesn't sign? No. But he could help us get better in areas we need to get better at.

I feel there is exactly zero percent chance the Saints would consider bringing in Boldin. That said, just for the sack of conversation, who would the Saints jettison to add him to the roster? There are four current WR's that are pretty much locks for the roster ... Thomas, Snead, Ginn and Coleman. Some say Boldin would be able to help mentor the young WR's. Well, if he was added what young receivers would be left to be mentored? Another factor is that adding a player like Boldin you would lose TWO roster spots. The fifth WR (and probably the sixth if the Saints carry that many) would be expected to play special teams. Boldin isn't going to serve that role so therefore the Saints would have to find that special teamer at another position.

If our young receivers don't look good in TC and we are deficient--- why not? But before we even see what we have in the rookies and PS players......then NO!

You make good points. The reality of today's NFL is, given the limited roster space, teams are often compelled to go with the lesser-known younger talent, because you don't want to miss out on the ones who do excel and can help you for years to come versus a veteran could be in his final year before retirement. The NFL doesn't have AAA or a D-League so therefore you can't have many veterans around or you aren't developing any young talent. And the practice squad rules are pretty wonky so you can't rely on that. Thus the moves for reliable veterans that *should* make sense don't often work out in the NFL. I think Boldin could help but yes I see the other side of it.
