I'm exited about the prospects themselves too but having to start Day 1 is gonna be tough.
We gotta win one of the first 2 games. I think a win there would go a long way for moral given the fact we have gone 0-4 so much lately.

I wouldn't say that. Special teams is 1/3 of the game and Mauti is a ST beast. We're just making sure we have the right guys as depth who can contribute significantly in other ways. It might not bode too well for a guy like Manti Te'o though.

Our special teams could be tremendously improved with guys like Mauti, Erik Harris, Daniel Lasco and maybe Lampman.

Yeah, we really need to win week 1. It has been far too long since we have won the first game of the season.

Well, whether you think PFF is the gospel or just another useful gauge to grade player performances...

...here's a little reminder of what he can do if he makes it all the way back (I'm now a Mauti fan)...

...an article I remembered from March 2016, and there's other names on the list you may recognize...

Kelemente, Unger, and Armstead all starting PUP is scary. Camp hasn't started yet and we basically have Peat.
At least we have a running game to help.

There is a very real reason why these players are on PUP before the training camp starts. They can be removed from pre-season PUP at any point with no issue. They are also eligible for regular season PUP which means they can return after six games. If they were placed upon pre-season PUP after camp had started or not placed on PUP at all, they wouldn't be eligible for regular season PUP and could only either be placed on IR at the beginning of the season or would have to be placed on the 53 man roster, ready or not.

This happens with several players deemed not ready yet every year. Kelemente will probably be off PUP soon.

Hopefully he is back and ready some time between week 1 and 4

I am interested in Turner. He was put in on some goal line formations last year. Would like to see him get it figured out.

Hopefully he is back and ready when he is supposed to be ready, BEFORE the preseason is over. And they didn't play any games with Unger. They waited to see if the condition would heal on its own and still went with the surgical approach early enough to be ready for the start of the season. Any surgery is risky and can have post-operative complications which could cost a player the entire season. Since Payton has repeatedly said Unger would be back in time he must have dodge any complications.
